Re: 3rd Annual Indecisive Franchise Guys

I can't play as my favorite team (Tigers). I'm already too emotionally invested and then get frustrated when things change from the real world - like if I make a trade and then that player heats up in real life, I get mad he's not on my team in the game anymore. Its so irrational lol.

I think I'm going to run with the Rangers this year. I lived in the Dallas area a handful of years ago so there's some level of connection, but with almost brand new stadium, some top talent, and some fun young guys in the system, I think its the perfect balance of mid-pack to compete but also still a bit of a rebuild. I'm using the Fidelity rosters and spent time last night and this morning getting 30 team control setup and setting all 30 org rosters the way I want to start. Hoping to maybe start playing games later on today!

I'm a Cleveland fan but I haven't used them in a few years. But when I did I viewed myself as a shrewd GM, if you're not cutting it, you're gone. Just like Moneyball. Just let em go. It's a business of winning.
No I get this. That's why I'm looking for a new team to play with. So I was looking for some suggestions.

I'm not sure who to go with though. I was thinking to the A's or Orioles because the A's are terrible so there are no expectations (and with the stadium creator I can "move them to a new field" after the first year) and the Orioles have some great young talent. I used to never use the AL because I hate the DH rule but now that doesn't really matter anymore.

I used Oakland last year because I like doing rebuilds. It was great, eventually moved them to a new stadium but kept them as Oakland. I guess depends what you're looking for. If you're only looking in the AL, Baltimore is close to contention with some young future stars. Oakland, Detroit, KC would be full on rebuilds from the ground up.

Or you could take the Angels and sell off everything they have for prospects and start them over again. I mean if they don't go very far again this year who knows what happens with that team.

Re: 3rd Annual Indecisive Franchise Guys

I've posted this elsewhere, but maybe the idea can be of some use to people here.

The examples are from my MLB 22 Franchise and I've simply changed the years to reflect how it would have happened on MLB 23.

Generally, I got bored or simply quit as soon as something (performance, trades, free agency) went away from whatever I felt was normal/right. For the past few years, I've either played Bacon's fictional or "created" my own fictional world.

Using the default rosters (or whichever roster really), I sim out 25 years - For MLB 23, it means I'd start playing in 2048. I create two profiles (one for me and one for the CPU).
          1. I did absolutely nothing to intervene until 2046. All teams are under full Auto, "CPU" profile control.
          2. I pick a team and start setting specific things to Manual control on my "MLB" profile.
          3. I try to select a team that has a decent blend on young and old talent (ranked around 15th in the league), but will need some work to make the playoffs.
          4. In 2046 I started drafting and then fully took over transactions following the 2046 World Series. I kept things rather conservative for free agency and trades for 2047.
          5. Then, following the 2047 World Series is where I truly was able to craft a roster/franchise they way I desire.

I don't get to play as much as I used to, so in order to keep things rolling along and fresh, here's my play/sim schedule:
          1. I play the first game of each series. Then I Quick Manage the remaining games in the series.
          2. In the playoffs, I generally play every game.
          3. Every third Regular Season, I solely Quick Manage and then jump into the playoffs (if I've made it).

So, I'm playing roughly 54 games per regular season. I get to see a lot of my team, but also keep the season moving. In effort to keep things from getting stale and repetitive, "simming" every third season helps.

After starting in 2048, I'm currently in 2053 (a Quick Manager year). I made the playoffs from '48 to '51. After being bounced like a rag doll, I finally won the World Series in '51. 2052 saw a step back with some of my previous stars declining from age. Currently, in 2053 I'm back in the playoff hunt! It's great seeing my draftees from the early years make it and turn into my new core. Starting next season, I should have an entire rotation that I've drafted! It's frustrating (yet great) to see a deal I made, trading a promising OF prospect for a 1B turn to complete crap and that 1B being non-tendered last year.

Overall, these things have been the game worth playing and continue to be invested in. I'm no longer upset if the CPU trades away a franchise icon or a guy on my team that I feel is underperforming expectations. It's my own universe. Just play and have fun.

            Here we go again.

I was fine, cruising along with a Rockies franchise and they update the roster and I have the itch to restart.

Every year I view April as the transition month where I restart numerous times before settling in around May 1.

Re: 3rd Annual Indecisive Franchise Guys

I can appreciate the struggles a lot of y'all have been having getting settled into a franchise. I went through the same myself. I had planned on doing a Reds franchise even before launch (I tend to use Cincy every other cycle and I used the O's last year). I play every game, so it is 1 franchise per version of MLBTS for me.

Anyways, with Cincy, I got through playing all of my ST games; got into the regular season but I was not connecting emotionally. Last week, I realized my issue; I was trying too hard to "embrace the rebuild" laid-out by the real-life ownership but that didn't match the story that was unfolding in my franchise (where, in spite of being 10+ games under .500, we were only 4 games out of first). I was allowing external influences to corrupt my thinking and that had to stop.

I stopped following the Reds Twitter account and since I all but stopped watching real-life sports in 2020, that cut the final cord for me from real-life happenings for MLB...giving me no comparator to my franchise. I am now operating as I should; following the story threads in my franchise with no external influences.

So back to my Reds franchise, I thought to myself, "why do rebuilds and winning have to be mutually exclusive?". Even a mediocre squad can win this division, and once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen. I altered my mindset and have begun work on strengthening our squad a little without mortgaging the future (or blocking young players who have a chance to contribute this season).

We're being far more active in using the entire 40-man roster and using franchise outcomes to drive the decision-making and nothing else. I have my own philosophies on team-building and they have greatly colored the handful of trades I have made thus far. I feel like we're a bit better now, but the key for me...if we're going to fail, it will be by MY hand; and THAT is the connection I need.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Ive started one with the braves, then Rays, then the Jays which i have played the longest. I follow real life transactions and games and im itching to start a new one with the Rays again with the new roster i found. Plus they play in a dump which i find fun to play in for some reason
