Question For You 30 Team Control Players Out There

I understand the premise and the benefits of 30 Team control and how to set it up. But I'm wondering how you all go about your franchise? I dabbled a little in '22 but I feel like I spent more time setting line ups, calling up/sending down players, etc for the other 29 teams than I did actually actually playing my games. Do you have some sort of system to streamline the process? Also, do you make note of IRL injuries and manually adjust to match their time off the field in your franchise?

I know everyone is a little different and I really like the idea of 30 team control in theory I'm just a little afraid of the time commitment outside of the diamond so I wanted to get some tips and tricks from those who have been doing this awhile

Everyone is different. I'm a 30 team control minimalist. To start the franchise, all that I do is make sure every team's 40 man roster makes sense. And their bullpens are set up like I want them to be set up.

As the franchise progresses, the only time I intervene with a team I'm not controlling is if I see something that makes no sense. Other than that, I let the other teams handle their own business, every other team is set to "auto", and whatever happens, happens.

Once my franchise starts, its a different world from "Real life".

I just started with 30 team control for the first time a few days ago. I check the transactions every day to make sure there are no dumb trades, other than that I leave everything alone for the most part

Anything in particular you recommend for the bullpen? I know I’ve seen people say to not use the second setup slot but I haven’t touched any bullpens other than my own

I'm still testing it but for now I make sure they have one bullpen guy that has 40-45 max stamina as the highest stamina bullpen guy. No bullpen guy with any stamina higher than that.

And I also don't put anyone in the long reliever spot. So far that's what I have and I've seen the CPU randomly bring in relievers, so far not always the same guys. I don't think it will ever truly be "fixed" though.

Re: Question For You 30 Team Control Players Out There

I play with my team but control everything in the entire league.

            - I turn off injuries for the minor leagues. This saves some maintenance time. Minor League statistics get deleted anyway (I wish they didn't).

            - In-Season Moves to Off-Season Moves - I will try to combine what happens in real-life to what happens in my franchise. Example: In my MLB22 Franchise the Padres were awful but in real life they were in the hunt. So in my franchise, I treated them like a team selling soon to be free agents (Clevinger etc.) and b/c they were not in the hunt I did not let them get Soto until the Winter Meetings. While a team like the Yankees were in the hunt in real life and in my franchise so I made the Montas/Trevino trade. And if a team is in the hunt in my franchise but selling in real-life I will try to make them acquisitions that help their playoff push.

            - The Trade Block is huge for me. Slowly keeping track of whose contract a team may be trying to get rid of and who has needs going into the deadline < updating the block makes it so much easier than trying to do it all at once. It's like a build up to one of the most exciting times of your season.

            - I try to run every organization in a combination of how I would and how they operate in real life. i.e. the Pirates/A's no matter how much money they are in the positive still operate low budget. While the big free agents sign with the big market teams.

            - The way I look at it: baseball is a 162 game season & the moment you start trying to play games just to "hurry up and finish the season" is when you lose complete interest & accountability within a 30 team control season. You have to have "story-lines" - period. Trading just to trade just ruins it. Calling up the right prospects at the right time and moving them up and down through the minor leagues creates a buzz for the league. These little details keep you connected to the franchise. Yes you will sometimes get bogged down with "maintenance" but you have to pick and choose when you do it. Sometimes your more in the mood to run the organizations than play games - when that hits you do it. When your team is hot and you want to drink a beer and play a series on a Friday night, you do it.

            - If you don't want to deal with anything but play games, turn the injuries off for a day or two and just play. Once in a while you get stuck having "to do stuff" - tendering contracts, signing draft picks before a deadline, etc. Then you just suck it up and do it. I play the Show all the way through fall/winter so rushing to get through seasons is irrelevant, I just take my time. Like waiting for Tatis right now before starting a franchise, it will be worth waiting 20-some days in the end. I do not plan on getting MLB24, the only reason I got MLB23 was b/c of the balanced schedule MLB adopted. It def. forced my hand.

how do you turn off the injuries for just the minor leagues? that would be a fairly significant time saver I think.

I definitely agree about taking my time with The Show. I plan to play this year round this time rather than getting the itch and switching over to Madden only to play for a month and then get bored playing against the awful CPU over there. By the time I give up Madden my interest in the Show is gone so I am looking to add more in The Show to stay up year round with it.

I'm pretty similar to @jcar0725...the work that I do on other teams is pretty minimal. Everything is set to auto. I mainly use it to make sure that the CPU trade engine doesn't rip itself off (ie. Wander Franco for a C potential prospect).

I'll also keep tabs on some of the top prospects once in a while. If they're dominating in the minors, I'll fire them on the 40 man and let the CPU decide when to bring them up.

MLB22 had a "Majors Only" Injury option; If MLB23 does not have that option I will just turn injuries off or to manual when I simulate the minor league games. (I simulate the games before I play my game that day so the scores show up on the scoreboard when you play)

One other thing I'll do is for the bad/rebuilding teams, I'll stock up their teams with all the available decent free agents, so their teams are better, and dump their awful players on their rosters.

I haven't made it that far in a while, but in past versions I'd hit the last week of FA and send veterans that were still available to a lot of those teams on a "minor league" contract ($500 k or so...), just to make sure they were stuck in free agency for a full year.

I get it. Yeah I mean I do it before the first season starts. There are always good free agents out there not assigned to any team. I put them on cincy oak pitt kc det wash etc etc

I see there is an option for Injury management can be set to "MLB only" I am guessing this is what you meant.

This would be ideal because then the minor league players still get hurt and could potentially delay their progression but also I won't have to manually deal with each AA injury.

                          good find!
