Why is an option being used after spring training?

I think this has been covered before but I can't find it.

    I start a franchise

I sim to the last game of spring training

BEFORE I advance to the regular season I try to make changes in the roster and I keep getting the message: "sending player x down to AAA will use one of his minor league options"

Is there not a way to get my 26 aligned without that happening?

That’s how it works in real life. Everyone on your 40 man roster that doesn’t make the big league club and gets sent to the minors uses an option

Ok. Thank you for explaining that. I can't believe I actually forgot that's how it worked. Guess I'm getting old

Maybe I can impose to see if there's a workaround for something:

If I know I have a few players who I don't want to start the season with but I also don't want to waste options, Do I just need to start by taking them completely off the 40-man roster?

I'm using the Braves and I know there are a handful of players I'm going to call up during the season but I don't want them to have one wasted option right from the beginning.

Once you use an option on a player, you can call him up and send him down as much as you want that season and it still only counts as one option. Are you planning on calling these guys up and down for multiple years?

I've done it right before the last game ( like don't Sim it) and do all my demotions Sim the last game and look over the franchise single a to triple a and it'll say Option used but when I have started my season they all start with the usual 3 or whatever option they have available.

I can't believe I never knew this. It's not like I knew it and forgot it. I just never knew it.

Yeah, I'm likely just going to play a full season and not multiple seasons so I do plan on a few of those guys going up and down but only during one season.

            Thank you

What I always, always do - after getting burned by this in my first editions of the game years ago, is to make sure that your 40 man roster is set and make sure that you manually go through and set your MLB, AAA and AA rosters yourself. Don't sim to the regular season with more than 26 guys on the MLB team or it very well might cause you headaches.

Do not leave this to the CPU. It will mess it up more often than not, make weird choices, and you'll end up with guys on waivers because they were sent to the minors out of options.

A good starting spot is to look at your 40-man, and just remove anyone that you won't want on the MLB squad who isn't likely to get claimed on waivers. If/when they clear waivers, you can just place them on a minor league team and they'll be safe until the Rule 5 draft. Or, going next level, try to trade anyone on your 40-man that you don't really want.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

I knew it was used as an option but the game shouldn't option Miggy. So he got optioned after spring training and is on waivers. Misses first three games of season

The game doesn't differentiate. Its going to force the "best" 26 men onto the MLB roster, as it sees fit, unless you set it yourself. If you try and carry too many starting pitchers and not enough relievers, it'll do the same thing, to fill the quotas. Or too many OF and not enough IF, etc.
