Franchise Players: Do You Play with Your Default Roster, Sign FAs and/or Make Trades?

I have played with the Nationals since 2011 until 2019 when Bryce left. I always played with the real team unless they wanted to leave. I started playing with the Dodgers exclusively since 2019. I was never so happy when the Dodgers traded for Scherzer and Treat Turner because this is what I always wanted.

I never wanted to make trades or sign free agents, but Nationals and Dodgers players come and go, but Trea Turner? I can't let go of lol. I played with the Dodgers in MLB The Show 22 when I got my Xbox Series S because I haven't had a game console in two years, and it was the most fun I ever had. I got so used to playing with Trea Turner that I want him on my team always.

Long story short, I have had Griffey Jr on my team since he was a legend on MLB The Show 17. Sosa is on the game now so he is on my team too. Do any of you guys make trades for your favorite players, sign free agents ,or what? I feel a bit bad about this, but I put Trea Turner back on the Dodgers. I use the real, default rosters so it's not like I make tweaks.

At the end of the day it’s your game and you should play it however you will enjoy it the most. I almost added David Wright to the Mets when I started my franchise but I decided to stick with the default roster. I’ll keep the team pretty close to real life the first season but after that I do what I want. I did blow up the Angels though and put their players throughout the NL to make it more competitive

I treat it like a real franchise. I make trades that I think will help my team achieve whatever goal we are going for, whether it be winning a championship or rebuilding a team from the ground up.

These days I never make trades just because I like a player, but I used to. For instance when I was younger I always used the Astros (my favorite team) and in the old MVP Baseball days I would trade for Miguel Tejada because he was my favorite shortstop at the time. Then the Astros actually got Tejada and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Eventually I started to feel it made the game unfair so I stopped doing it. But to each their own. It was certainly enjoyable to play with my favorite guys.

That’s kind of funny because sometimes I go back and play 14 just so I can play with Wright. He’s my all time fav Met. Forgot I could add him to current edition as a legend.

As for what I do I start with default rosters and see how season plays out. I will make trades and/or sign/release as I see fit. It’s my own fantasy world so I do whatever.

Going to try and keep close to the Mets Opening day roster...but keeping Diaz. Quintana and Narvaez will start in AAA, giving Baty and Alvaraez a shot on opening day, despite a late ST power surge from Escobar.

Used to try to keep up with mid season trades/acquisitions, we'll see how it goes. Last version I had (2019)I signed Jose Reyes back for his last Mets season and played him a lot.

The Show is a GM simulator for me as much as anything. I enjoy playing the games, but at least half of the reason I buy and play is to build the team. Trades, free agents, the draft and player development. I really, really wish that they would bring back and/or add more franchise depth like there was in the past.

Typically what I'll do in a franchise is start out by trading away players who I don't want or who's contracts are undesirable. Then I'll put all of my best prospects in AA, where they have the best chance to succeed and develop. This will often leave me with a bit of a depleted roster at the MLB level in year one, but that's OK. I sim the games and do all of the roster building activities, scout and do the draft, and then do free agency and trades in the offseason.

Then, in year two, I have a roster that's more to my liking with the core of the real team augmented by the others I've added and sometimes a few of my best prospects promoted to the bigs.

Exact same for me. Once I get mine started, it’s a new world and how it plays out is how it plays out.

I have only been able to use the Default Roster the last two years, since Single A Level has real players now. Before that, I wasted so much time trying to create the perfect roster, which is impossible, really.

I like starting in Spring Training and assuming it's my universe.

I will change my coaches, scouts, work my roster--whatever I gotta do to win.

I like to use the latest roster and then I always add a random created player in a position that the team I'm using needs the most. Start him around a 71 overall in his rookie year with a 95+ potential rating and just let him get better every season. Yes I know a can do RTTS, but I like having full team control and I have the most fun with the game doing this.

I started with the early launch roster update, and tweaked it to get the rosters as close to the real thing as possible.

Once I start my franchise, I consider it an "alternate universe" where what is happening in real life has no bearing on what I do in the franchise.

For example, if the Tigers trade away a player in real life, I will keep him on the team in the franchise.

When I got off to a good start with the Tigers, I did sign Ken Giles to help shore up my bullpen. Also called up Trevor Rosenthal. Trades and free agent signings inside my franchise in a way that would be realistic to the franchise, NOT to real life.

This exactly what I do. 2nd season in Franchise I gutted the Mets of large contract players with the exception of Alonso, Nimmo and McNeil. Traded Verlander, Max and even Senga for players under 25 with a 75+ overall.

I use the NL Central team with the lowest budget to start my franchise and then I relocate. Low budget makes it more of a challenge.

                            I play with default roster.

First season I don't sign a free agent until a CPU team signs one. Offseason I do sign free agents although they tend to be mid level players and not stars due to budget restrictions.

I make trades but with self imposed restrictions.

Naah forget about Wright. That's too conservative. Go all in with it.

What we need to add to the Mets roster is Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden.

And when I say Gooden I mean the 1985 version of Doc.
