As for getting that message too quickly, I can only think it could have to do with that bug where it treats a pitcher as coming in cold (which is an energy/confidence cut to what they already had) if you bring them in from anywhere but the bullpen screen. Basically, don't change pitchers from the quick menu or use the "schedule to pitch" option. This is one of the oldest bugs in the series and it kind of boggles my mind that it hasn't been fixed by now.
So I should always pause the game and go to the bullpen menu through there to bring in a new pitcher? I’ve never heard this before but this would explain why my relievers always have such low confidence

Yup, that's exactly what you do. It doesn't matter if you go to the bullpen screen from the quick menu (D-pad up) or the pause menu, but you do need to make the actual pitcher change on the bullpen screen.

They need to be warmed up enough before you bring them in too, otherwise you'll get hit with the same penalty. I don't mean the manually controlled warmups after the sub (if you have that enabled) - just the automatic ones they throw in the pen to get ready.

That's what I thought they were talking about and that's what I was talking about too. I have NOT seen that pop-up this year.
