Has baserunning been messed up since the last patch?

My experiences are with single player, offline franchise only vs the CPU.

Has anyone else noticed that their baserunners are acting really conservative and dumb since the last patch? My guys are suddenly very reluctant to try and turn a single into a double or to score from second, especially on balls hit into the right field corner. When i watch a replay, they now will sometimes go into animations where they look lost and are stumbling around like a 35-year old DH with a bad leg, instead of young, fast guys who should have no issue with this.

I'd never had this trouble through the first 80 games or so of my season, and over the last 10-15 it happens every day. Sometimes it even causes them to get caught and tagged out. Its maddening.

I've been experiencing this too. For me it's on balls where it's hit out of the infielder's reach but they wait to make sure it gets past the fielder and then they just freeze after it gets by. Below is an example, I've seen much worse instances but this was the only one I captured. It's Trae Turner running too, I think he has 98 or 99 baserunning aggressiveness

Yeah, they're all too eager and lazy to just slow way down and stop at the next base. Even if they're fast and I'm pushing the button to go go go.

Not sure what the issue is there. Assuming it was less than two outs, Turner did exactly what he's supposed to do. He has to wait for a ground ball in front of him to clear the infield before advancing. By the time he does that even with 99 speed he has to hold at 3rd on such a shallow ball in outfield. Even the most aggressive runner probably holds at 3rd in most situations.

Btw..if Turner had gone for home he would have been out...lol.

The ball was well past the infielder before he started running, I don’t have an issue with him staying at third, it just takes runners too long to identify when they can advance on these type of hits. I’ve seen much worse instances but that’s the only one I recorded. I’ve had guys not advance from second to third on a line drive to right field because he froze after the ball cleared the second baseman

Playing Yanks v blue Jays. Varsho just hit rope over RF head in right center but no quite power ally and aggressively went for triple when I thought he would stop at 2nd. His speed is 64 and aggression 60. I think it is working well.

I wonder if settings and sliders are the difference then. I keep having my players come to a complete stop and go into hesitation animations as soon as they get to the next base, unless it's a completely obvious choice to keep going. Even when I keep hitting the buttons to run. And then sometimes they even get caught flat footed a few feet from the base and get tagged out. It sucks so much. Like they're all idiots now.

There’s another base running issue that has it’s been bugging me for as long as I can remember, and it just dawned on me that maybe I should ask if I’m doing something wrong instead of assuming it’s a glitch. There are times when the runner slides and it completely ruins the play. Usually it’s when a runner is on second and I hit a ball up the middle, sometimes he’ll slide going into 3rd instead of going home. I’ve tried holding the advance button but it doesn’t seem to work. Makes no sense to have a runner sliding into third on a hit up the middle. Anyone see anything similar? Ive also hit a ball down the third baseline and the runner from second slides into third, not even giving me a chance to try for home. Makes me crazy!

This is a part of the issue that I'm talking about, and in my experience its cropped up far more this year over the last few weeks than it had before.

More broadly speaking, the newest patch hasn't fixed these issues. I see them almost every game. Earlier today, I had a good, fast runner on second with two outs, and my batter hit a clear double into the gap. I kept hitting the advance button until the runner was past third base and the hitter was on his way to second, but even though the ball was still rolling in the outfield as the lead runner was headed to home plate, he decided to slam on the breaks, head back to third and dive into the bag, ignoring all of my directions. I was livid. There is no reason for a player to act that stupidly conservative, no matter what the settings are. Even if he had a zero for speed and baserunning, he'd have scored.

Its the same sort of thing I see on what should be doubles all the time and the player just refuses to go for about three seconds, and when he finally listens to me, its too late. I feel like the players are acting like 6-year old little leaguers in this respect.

I agree and also find it infuriating. It def happening more often also. I lost 2 runs in my last game simply because of guys sliding at in opportune times. Ridiculous!

I've been experiencing this base running glitch for the past two years. I guess it's exclusive to only XBOX but runners will stop and go back to the base or stop in between bases and just stand there on balls in play

Yeah, that's not the same one I'm getting on the PS5. But as a fellow Cubs fan, I feel your pain.
