    Bullpen organization for sim games

Has anyone figured out the perfect slots to put each reliever so they all get used correctly in simmed games?

It's so frustrating when my worst reliever constantly gets put in a tie game just to blow it open almost every time. I also have my set up guy in the first set up slot but he rarely gets used late in a tight game.

    Any ideas?

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

It's broken. There is nothing you can do but manage each rotation yourself and or edit stamina ratings.

Relievers with high stamina ratings especially in the long relief spot will be over-used. There is nothing you can do about it but move them to middle relief spot 4 when they need scaled back. You can move them to set up spot #2 but then they start making appearances as a set up man in games. These issues are just for sim games, actually playing games is another animal. You have to slide guys into different roles during the series. A long reliever may go 3 innings against you then the computer will pop them right back in the next night against you. It's become very useful to switch team control sides during a game and get guys out after an inning or two to make it realistic.

It's broken, it's been broken. It can be contained some by putting in the extra work of shuffling team's bullpens. Also I play on CPU Hook at 8.

Spot on. In my franchise, I take 20 mins every Sunday to rotate the bullpens. Something else I noticed that causes overusage is not enough pitchers get injured. So I will manually injure players in the bullpen to get guys in there who dont have innings already. Usually I'll just injure someone from that ream who is actually injured IRL.

I've also noticed that on good teams this year, that first set up man is like leading the team in appearances for a lot of teams.

*If they are winning; if they are not winning they will not use them. The logic of using a set up guy to hold a 1-2 run deficit doesn’t exist.

I do like your idea of manually injuring a guy once in a while - I’m going to use that. I will send guys up and down when they struggle for the league as well.

What about just taking every reliever off the MLB roster that you really never want on the mound? Would that work?

Re: Bullpen organization for sim games

Since I play or quick manage every MLB game, this doesn't truly apply to me. However this my bullpen setup for my minor league teams (and I would do the same if I were simming in the MLB).

LRP: Second Best RP (no STA above 39, prefer RHP)
LRP: Third Best RP (no STA above 39, prefer LHP)
                LRP: OPEN

MRP: Fifth Best RP (prefer RHP)
MRP: Sixth Best RP (prefer LHP)
                MRP: Sixth SP
                MRP: OPEN

                SU: Fourth Best RP
                SU: OPEN

                CL: Easy, Best RP
                ----------

As said, your LRPs still get the most usage. It may be beneficial to purposely put your lower STA RPs in the LRP spots, if there isn't much separation in skill from your other RPs. SU doesn't get used as much as it should, so your LRPs should definitely be better than your SU. Fill out the rest with your MRPs and, as mentioned by others, having a SP (your true long reliever) in the last bullpen spot helps get other pitchers used. Also, I feel that the bullpen logic is better with a 12-man staff, rather than a 13-man staff.
