Does anyone know if the catchers have a hidden rating or an outcome on pitch calling?
I have been slow to play this year due to medication that makes it look like your driving in the rain with no wipers. I just played a game and started my backup catcher to give my starter a day off and I had the lowest strikeouts I have had this season.
I've been having great results pitching on legend. My last 5 games, the CPU has swung and missed at 9.7% of their pitches seen (which is on the low end, and makes sense given that I'm using the A's, who are at 9.6% on the season). And I'm at 9.2 k/game; a little high, but that's because I had dropped Foul Frequency specifically to bump them up. The previous games at 5 I had been at 7.5k and 9.1% swinging strikes.
I'm at 2 hum control, 3 hum consistency, 5 CPU contact, 8 cpu power, 5 CPU timing, 5 foul frequency (after trying 4, I think I liked 5 just a little bit better), 5 solid hits.
What month are you currently in your chise? im just curious when i may expect to hear some of the things they say related to the season like u stated.
I’m in September, I started noticing them around august. Not to say I didn’t hear them before that but they seemed to start occurring more after patch 9 for me
Man all I know is I’m not apologizing for any of my strikeouts while pitching.
I get it, if your staff is marginal or weak attribute-wise and you’re leading the league in Ks it can feel “off,” but, as I’ve posted elsewhere on this topic, it’s largely in your control. “Too many strikeouts” is the madden equivalent of “bros I’m passing for too many yards.” Ok, so get your butt up to Legend+ and put the CPU’s power, contact and timing on 10.
See what I’m driving at or no? I ask because I honestly feel this sort of thing gets glossed-over if not lost on this forum, and I mean the whole forum.
It’s a video game, yeah? You can master the absolute f out it, no different from how people can level-one-no-damage-run the Souls games. You can score 18 runs a game and pitch 27K gems on Legend+ if you’re patient enough and good enough. What does “bros I’m throwing too many strikeouts” even mean?
Reese Olson K’d like 9 today in 5IP, how many of you reading this even know who that is?
I digress. All I’m saying is, I WANT DEEPLY every out I get. And if you don’t, your setting aren’t hard enough.
I agree. Legend does help the K’s this year. But 2 years ago, we would have thought pitching with classic on legend and raising contact and power would have been insane. Armor was almost default HOF in 20. I believe he said Legend was too crazy or something. I just feel that Legend should feel harder than it is.

Edit 2: on-topic, I really feel like crowd reactions are improved!
All raising cpu hitting sliders do is make them get tons of hits and make it very difficult to get outs. It DOES NOT decrease strikeouts. If anything it increases them. Why? Because now since they're gonna hit over 300 on you, just about the only way to get an out is a strikeout.
This has been my dilemma all year. Cpu doesn't put the ball in play enough unless you jack up their hitting sliders. If you get their batting average to be in a good spot with using contact no higher than 6, maybe 7. Strikeouts are still high regardless. BABIP is always very high. It's not that the gameplay still isn't good and fun. But so few balls in play make it very very boring. Then frustrating when they do put one in play it is a base hit. And like I said, I'm now forced to get a strikeout if I want to get outs.
It just makes every game feel the same and that gets very stale fast. 12+ total strikeouts should be once every 10 or so games. Not every 3rd game. I should get a strikeout every 5th or 6 at bat. Not every 2nd or 3rd like I do. Striking out the side should be rare. Not every couple games, sometimes multiple games in a row. Never getting below 7 strikeouts (my fewest all year one time) in a game shouldn't happen.
I've tried all kinds of settings. Ball marker off, on. Allstar, HOF, Legend. Always control and consistency at like 3 and 2 for the most part.
I'm not really mad about it. Just disappointed more than anything. This is an entirely different game in 2023. There's no other explanation for it imo.

I notice you always have human control and consistency sliders way down. Maybe that's part of your issue. I'm getting great balance with classic pitching on legend without touching my human pitching sliders, and cpu contact at 6.

I agree that the game can be adjusted to your skill level. I think most of the frustration this year is because it has taken more slider manipulation to get to the "sweet spot" for a lot of folks than in years past.
In my own case I haven't gotten into franchise yet as I don't want to play 25 games and have a team ERA of 2.30 and 13 K/9 and then adjust sliders, but I also don't want to play 25 "meaningless" exhibition games to finally get to the right settings. The game plays really well, and I'm on my way to reaching the "sweet spot" it's just a little frustrating that it takes so long to find it for some.

I very much disagree. Foul Frequency has a direct impact on swing and miss rates, which obviously would result in more strikeout. More power means you have to pitch more carefully, which means you're ahead in fewer counts. Foul Frequency and contact both possibly impact CPU plate discipline. If you're able to throw more than half your pitches in the zone and not get punished for it by the CPU, then yeah, your strike outs are going to be higher.

I don't know what to tell you, man. A lot of us are having good results. I'm using Classic, so it's not like it's a user skill issue. My last 11 games on legend with everything besides power between 4 and 6, I've gotten 7.9 k/9, and given up 9.6 h/9. I wish I knew what you did differently to get such different results.

Your targets are a little off. Just this weekend, a team had 12+ k's 11 times in 29 games, so closer to once every 5 team games. And strike outs should be closer to every 4 plate appearances than every 5 or 6.
Overall, it's pretty weird. Because I'm actually getting much better results than I did last year. I really wish I knew why there was a difference. Because you wouldn't think there'd be much variance if we're all using classic.
