Good ratings “formula” for converting a starter to a reliever?

So, I want to convert Daniel espino from a starter to a reliever. What rating edits do people do when they make that transition? Obviously I don’t want 75 stamina and a low hit walk and HR per 9 with a reliever.

Just curious if anybody has a set way the do this.. thanks!

Here’s a quick guide from our Franchise Fidelity to Reality discord:

    Take note of current overall

    Change to RP

Knock stamina down to the appropriate level (30-40 for long relief, 10-20 for mid to late inning)

Bump up all /9 numbers to get to the starting overall you took note of.

Consider upping potential by 1-2 if you desire

Thank you, that’s what I ended up doing. Looks good [emoji1303]

Re: Good ratings “formula” for converting a starter to a reliever?

I go about this a slightly different way. I play with SDS ratings, so I want to keep it on that same scale, where relievers are generally lower rated than starters. So I looked at the league average h/9, k/9, bb/9, hr/9 for starters and relievers. Then I pulled up 2020-22 player stats and found the median relevant rating for players who were roughly average in a given stat.

For example, starting pitchers this year are averaging 8.75 H/9 this year. The starting pitchers who averaged around 8.65-8.85 H/9 had (at the beginning of the year) a median H/9 rating of 55. The average reliever this year has allowed 8.17 H/9. Relievers with a H/9 roughly 8.07-8.27 had a median H/9 of 62. So when I convert a reliever, I add 7 to their H/9.

For velocity, I looked at some pitchers who started quite a bit in 2022 but were exclusively relievers this year. And, on average, they saw an increase of 1.7 MPH per pitch. 6 or 7 rating points seems to result in a full MPH increase, so I raise every pitch's velocity by 11. And then I do the same for break, because I'm not going in and testing break.

For stamina and clutch, I kinda just went by feel. So the changes I make when converting a starter to reliever are:

        STA -40
        CLU +15
        H/9 +7
        K/9 +6
        BB/9 -10
        HR/9 +5
VEL (on each pitch) +11 (-11 for changeups)
        BRK (on each pitch) +11

And I would do the inverse if moving a reliever to the rotation.
