Honest answer: They'll make him a DH only in the game, unable to change his position, to make sure you'll buy 25 as well when he is doing double duties again.

Yes they did, as @ninertravel said, they made him an Outfielder in 20 without ever changing it back, because screw you, buy our new game.

To be fair, the DH rules were different back then and they also didn't have the 2-way capability figured out. They did for this game. Different times 4 years ago.

Keep it the same and toss him in a long-relief spot. He will never appear on the mound as long as he starts as the DH.

So now that the game is out. What did they do with Ohtani this year?

He's listed as P with lf, rf, and cf sencondary positions. Dodgers have him as their number one starter

Does he still DH every game in franchise?

Fine in theory but then you end up with catchers who suddenly show as the best fielding 1B or 3B on the roster. I assume there are other examples of this as well but that’s the main one imo.

Frankly I don’t find fielding ratings to matter all that much anyway. I neutered the f out of Colt Keith, Jace Jung & Justin-Henry Malloy last year (talking 30s & 40s) so that it would be a liability to play them every day (the knock on all three of them is substandard defense) and all of them performed fine defensively.
                Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

They should do like 2k did and give players a rating for every position that determined the size of the Penalty for playing that position. So a position with a 99 gets no penalty, 90 gets a small penalty, 70 gets a bigger one, etc.

Makes it so players who actually play multiple positions get credit for that, and players who have dabbled in a position, but not played it in a while get a bigger penalty.

For those of us that play franchise, the ability to train players at different positions would also be huge. Whether it’s young prospects coming through the system or old OFs slowing down that need to move to first, it would be a huge addition to help with story immersion for the mode.

There’s so much room for fun little dynamics in this area (and you just know none of them will happen).

Say circumstances demanded, for whatever reason, your backup catcher is needed to play 1B. It’s not a secondary for him, but it’s a must, so you do it anyway. Guy plays there in 16 of the next 37 games, does fine. Why no dynamic emergence of 1B as a secondary?

And I think I know why. Because this is “I play all 162” logic. Franchise is already fringe. Every pitch of every game guys are prolly less than 500 in total. We’re worthless.

Full-circle, I think we just gotta make these kinds of adjustments on our own. This kind of stuff is never coming.

Yeah, we're dinosauers and its a human human human world. The only way I see Franchise getting drastic improvements every year is when Sony can make more money off franchise than just the one time purchase price. The problem is every time one person has an idea of what they would pay extra for in franchise, there are 10 more people that complain that if Sony puts that particular thing in, there should be no additional price to add it. Sony knows the back lash if they try to monetize franchise, so its a nonstarter. This is why franchise lags behind DD. We have met the enemy. And he is us.

So it looks like they weren't able to handle Ohtani correctly, and he will pitch for the MLBTS Dodgers in the '24 season.

Roster logic will be a mess for the Dodgers if you don’t start franchise with injuries on. After you add Yamamoto they’re going to have 7 or 8 legitimate starting pitchers.

Nah, I had pre existing injuries on and LA had four players on the DL but Ohtani isn't one of them. Since he's primarily a pitcher and DH is viewed by The Show as not a ''true'' position, I'm thinking when I start my ''for real'' Franchise, I'll manually injure Ohtani for the whole season. I don't even think that will hurt LA so it's the way I'm leaning since there is no way Ohtani pitches in real life this season.

I may remove him as a two way player and set his primary position as RF, then put his fielding stats to 0 that way they only DH him. Then just put him back as a two way player in season 2.
