Will We FINALLY get next Gen Graphics/Player Models in 24?

So next gen consoles came out in 2020, yet as of MLB the Show 23, graphics and player models still looked the same as they did on PS4.

Is this the year we FINALLY get completely revamped player models, 4 years removed from the next gen consoles release (cant believe im saying that).

That would legit be the only thing i ask for this game. The gameplay is by far the best of any sports game. I just want Next Gen graphics for pete's sake.

    Thoughts?

I do think we're heading towards the current gen only period. Other genres are starting to get there and I believe the new EA CFB game will be current gen only. If the CFB game is current gen only, I see Madden and EA FC following suit. I would love to see a jump in visuals for MLB the Show. They would most likely have to drop the Switch version, but would like to see them focus on the PS5 and the Series consoles.

would the switch version really prevent Ps5 from getting upgraded graphics and player models?

This is probably my biggest wish for this game. It’s beyond time for a fresh coat of paint on the graphics. The show was once ahead of the curve in terms of graphics. It was probably the best looking sports game during the PS3 era, and the early half of the PS4 era, but is now lagging behind other games.

Players models, uniforms/accessories, textures(grass), all need some type of update. My biggest fear is that the trailer releases, and we continue the cycle of “it looks like the same game” Its a shame because the show probably still has the best gameplay of all sports games in my opinion.

This Show was hands down the best looking sports game throughout PS3 days. But they’ve made very few upgrades since then graphics wise, and every other sports title has long sense surpassed it. That’s a major reason the game feels so stale now. We’ve honestly needed new player models since the early PS4 days.

I would be pleasantly surprised if we do receive upgrades. If we do, this game will go into another stratosphere.

It's kind of unbelievable how much from the ps3 graphics was basically just ported over to ps5.

SDS needs to stop making the game for last gen for an update on graphics.

I don't really think anything is preventing them from updating the graphics, besides their own motivations and their current game engine.

It's not like they're over there sayin, "Damn, I wish we didn't have to make this game for PS4, so we could add uniform cloth physics and better this and that."

It just isn't on their priority list and their game engine seems more limited than most. It's amazing what they've done with it, but The Show has been missing certain visual things that other games had years ago.

It still looks great, but their dev team is capable of makin it visually mind-blowing. The game engine's gotta be a major limitation.

I mean, what engine is it? I always think of it as a Frankenstein of some kind cause I believe they've just been building on the one from the PS3 era.

MLB 14 was the first Show on PS4 but it was MLB 17 when it really took off visually for me when they finally fixed those soulless dead eyes on the players. And 17 was also the first game not released for the PS3. The bad thing about 17 was it took a step back in actual gameplay in my opinion. So it was their 4th attempt to get it going visually on the PS4. MLB 24 will be the 4th year on the PS5 and I think we are in line for a visual upgrade on the PS5. Plus until I hear otherwise I expect Sony to be done with making a PS4 version thereby hopefully freeing up manpower to focus solely on the nex-gen versions. The wild-card is whether or not Nintendo gets a release and if that reigns in an advance in graphics.

“On a more positive note, I’m told the game looks excellent visually and that it’s close to being ready for an unveiling”

From a Forbes article about the game….this gives me hope (I think??)

I may be in the minority here, but every time sports games improve player models, animations, and related things...the gameplay gets worse and you get weird side effects. This issue has occurred across the sports games landscape from EA's move to Frostbite, Konami's move to UE, etc. For example, before FIFA made the switch to Frostbite (to improve all things graphics, models, etc.), the FIFA games didn't have the "skating problem" or near as many clipping animations. Now the game is full of both, which makes the game less realistic, especially because you can take advantage of it. We've seen this on a limited basis with MLBTS as in recent years, the game forces you into animations that are sometimes wrong because the game is trying to look as authentic as possible. There's a balancing act, but I haven't seen any of the major sports game developers do it very well yet.

Again, just my personal opinion and not at all a knock on the developers. Game development is tough and has only gotten tougher.

I totally get it. I think we all want great graphical improvements, but if they come at the expense of gameplay, then the game will have a short life span. Gameplay is still king.
