I don't think MLB still being on last-gen should be as much of an hindrance as it is. They didn't let Create a Stadium be held up just because of the PS4. Hopefully with the PS4 being only digital this years game, maybe there's a chance we see some glimmer of improvement on the current gen consoles.

Yes, I did in fact play both sides in these articles:

I think you’re missing the point, since the show is cross-gen compatible it means that both ps4 and ps5 games need to have the same animations and graphics in order for them to remain compatible in online play. So until sds ditches last gen we can’t expect any substantial improvements to current gen since they need to cater to the hardware limitations of last gen. So for now the only difference on ps5 that will remain is native 4k@60fps since that won’t impact the gameplay

Sounds like the mistake was in making it cross-gen compatible, and not nearly as much the mere supporting the last-gens.

Supporting last gen is still an issue since they need to dedicate dev time to working on it, but you’re correct the main mistake is definitely making them cross-gen compatible. This is why nba 2k and madden have much better current gen versions of their games compared to their last gen counterparts since they don’t make them cross-gen compatible
