          Baseball is predominantly a regional sport and the cover athlete decision is a national marketability problem. Position players are way more recognizable on a national (even global scale) than pitchers. As an example, find a casual baseball fan and ask them their favorite or best player on a team not in your region...you're highly likely (close to 100%) going to get a position player answer.

                  Now that it's established a pitcher has been on the cover, next article needs to be why a manager hasn't been on the cover. Sony dropped the ball not following up Miami Jazz cover with another Marlin, skipper Schumaker.
