Re: Introduce yourself:
I'm 55 and a Braves fan in baseball and a Giants fan in football (hence the name). Been playing video baseball as long as I can remember, from coin operated RBI Baseball to Intellivision's Major League Baseball to Bases Loaded on the Sega Genesis, as well as Tony LaRussa Baseball, Triple Play Baseball, Hardball, MVP Baseball and now, the Show.
I only buy two games a year - MLB the Show and Madden - and despite their warts, love both of them. I am super excited for March 15th. Hoping they added a lot to the commentary, adding more names now that we are in year 3 of this broadcast duo. Also, super excited and surprised that they are including the new rules (especially limiting pickoffs - interested to see how this affects the CPU and steals). Should add to the overall realism and immersion of the game.Comment

Re: Introduce yourself:
What fun thread.
Let's see, I'm 48 and never married and no kids. I do have friends with kids of course so I enjoy playing "uncle" to all the them. That of course means going to a lot of youth and high school sports. I have hosted and still do host a talk radio show. More of a side project than the full time job but dare to dream.
My baseball fandom was truly born in 1984 when my older brother introduced me to this scrappy team in Chicago called the Cubs. Little did I realize that the introduction would lead to a lot of heartache and the ultimate joy in 2016. I've often joke that "1984 was the year my brother ruined my baseball fandom life by introducing me to the cursed Cubs" but we all know I wouldn't have it any other.
I've been on these boards for a long long time, maybe as long as they've been around. I remember the days of coming here to find out what the first bit of info on Madden and NCAA was. And of course, the hunt for rosters. It is hard to believe that it has been 20 something years that I've been roaming these boards.
Years ago I wrote a blog post on here that was about why the Rule 5 Draft was important and should be included in the Show and that next year it was. I'm not sure if that little blog played a role in that happening but the developers were on these boards a lot back then. Good chance they had already started on getting it in.
As for what's next for me, who knows. I'll keep on plugging along with the Show and a few other games of choice as well as the fun wishlist here or there will be posted.Check out my updated 2017 blog on building a high school football video game:

Re: Introduce yourself:
Greetings! Enjoying reading through these.
I'm 27. Grew up in The Bahamas, living in the Twin Cities now. Been married for almost 3 years. No kids yet, but a dog who keeps us on our toes.
I write things; I work in communications and marketing.
Been a sports fan my whole life. My grandfather got me into baseball as a Dodgers fan.
Video games were also a big reason why I ended up exposed to sports. NHL Hitz was a favorite for years, and for some reason, I became a Flyers fan (maybe I liked the logo). Still a Flyers fan today.
Since music has been a theme, I DJ'd in college. Maybe one day I'll get back to it. Created music packs for many years for the NHL games, so I guess that helped scratch the itch.Comment

Re: Introduce yourself:
53 year old Irish bloke here. I grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY, but now live in North Carolina thanks to the Marine Corps (five years as a brig guard at Lejeune in the early 90's).
I got out of the Marines in 95, hold a bachelors in education and a masters in theology. Ive been teaching at the same school/church for 20 years. I've been married for thirty years. We have two grown children and one grandchild.
I've been playing video games pretty much my entire life (since the late 70's, mostly sport simulations). Baseball and hockey have been go-to's mostly (by far my favorite sports), but as I get older, baseball is becoming more and more predominant in rotation.
Im a bit weird in that I try, to the best of my ability anyways, to play a true video game simulation of the sport that it supposed to emulate (i.e. every inning of a baseball game, full 20 minute periods in hockey, full 15 minute quarters in football, etc...).
I've been around OS for a bit but don't post too much. I've always enjoyed reading and learning from many of the thoughtful and insightful authors that populate these boards. For the most part, the collaboration and comments that are offered are done so in a constructive manner that serve for the betterment of sports gaming as a whole. I find that OS in an invaluable resource for the sports gaming community and is much appreciated.
Thanks for doing this and keep up the good work!Black & Gold 4ever!Comment

Re: Introduce yourself:
I'm DJ, and according to Operation Sports, I joined on Jul 19, 2002 (21 years, 233 days ago). I was 27 at the time. Now, I'm a year and a half from being 50. Man, time flies! I'm a life long UNC Tar Heels, and Atlanta Braves fan. My favorite athlete of all-time regardless of sport sport is Dale Murphy. He and my father are the reasons baseball was my first love as a kid. Growing up in North Carolina, the Braves were the home team and "Murph" was the man!
Personally speaking, I've been married to my beautiful bride for 12 years, and we have a 9 year old son. At this stage of his life, he loves football, but I'm still holding out hope that one day he'll come to me wanting to play baseball lol.
As for work, I've spent the last 15 years in Public Safety, 10 years as a 911 Dispatcher, and the last 5 with our local police department. I believe that one of the best things a person can do on this side of life is serve others, and that's what my family is about.
It's been a blast being on OS all these years!"Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

Brad, 55, born and raised in Springfield IL before joining the Army and serving during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Was stationed in Germany and also Ft Ord in CA.
Moved to Chicago area around 98 where I met my wife. We've been married going on 24 years. Have two adult sons.
Diehard Cubs, Illini hoops and Cowboys fan. My first sports heartbreak was when Danny White fumbled at the 50 yd line against SF with about 50 seconds left, ending the drive that was going to make The Catch a big non-factor in sports history.
