I find it amazing that folks argue against inclusion because their wants and desires aren't presumptively being met... because they are worried about being excluded. Well, how do you think women in sports and video games have felt for decades?

Imagine having a glorious thing all to yourself (say baseball or The Show) and then not wanting that beautiful thing to be enjoyed by more people because an incredible game hasn't been made a tad better for your specific desires.

I have nieces who play soccer and basketball and can replicate those experiences in games. Now they can dream about being in MLB too.

Let's not forget, RTTS is all about dreams, hopes, and make-believe.

Let's all just have fun and be grateful we have something as wonderful as The Show.

I am not disagreeing here. And I feel sports game have done a really good job (FIFA/NBA) of incorporating the woman's game into the video game, but its not like these games NEED to have it to be liked.

I play single player games with female protagonists all the time, I don't need to be female to enjoy them. There are plenty of female NFL, MLB, fans that don't feel the need to be IN the game. They can enjoy it for what it is. I am not saying its a bad thing, but it's also not necessary to enjoy the game.

I don't think many people are mad that "Woman are in the game", I certainly am not, I am more frustrated that this is what time was spent to update the game instead of the various other things that need fixed when this impacts such a SMALL fraction of gamers.

I've never been much of a Career Mode type in sports games, but this is a really neat option for those who are. If they were going to go out of their way to make a female player model for Toni Stone, it only makes sense to apply it to other modes.

That said, questions about SDS' overall development priorities and marketing strategies are fair game. I've got nothing against this or Storylines (though, I wish the latter was playable offline), but making them the main points of emphasis for most of the marketing cycle doesn't bode terribly well for folks who prioritize gameplay, presentation, and Franchise.

As for those complaining about "wokeness", pronouns, and other culture war nonsense? Yeah, I'm not engaging with that drivel lol.

Come to think of it, I think they were so pleased with the addition of moving hair but came to the conclusion not so many MLB players actually have long(er) hair to showcase it so they were like f*ck it lets add woman so we’ll get our money’s worth [emoji23]

More likely the other way around.

Based on the games history and what we hear about how long they need to make changes like these, I expect the inclusion of female players with new body types/hair/new commentary was likely the lions share of development time this year.

Also with how mum they have been on details, I assume they just didn't want to announce it early because the blowback and negativity would have lasted up until release, unlike now where they hope nobody hears before its out the door.

I am not sure I buy into that. I mean do we honestly think SDS sits around and says. "Ok what are we going to put in the game and as they are deciding they say well people are going to hate this so let's put it in and mention it at the end"? I have to believe every decision they make about what is going into the game they truly believe will be a hit. No shot they make a list of things and say "Everyone will hate it" and still put it in.

Do I believe a part of them cares less how it goes over as long as it sells? Ofc , I have seen the streams and how irrate people are, I read the social media responses and how upset people are. They truly do not care. but its not because they hate the fan. its because its a business and Franchise mode is not the big seller of the game anymore. At the end of the day its about making money. What sold more units last year? Franchise mode or Negro League storylines? I bet it was Negro League storylines.

Anyone who has played an online game vs random people knows how a large portion of the online community is in this game.

Unfortunately, this addition to the game is gonna end up bein used in a very odd way if women are able to be on DD teams.

I don't think the core dev team was given a choice. Most likely mandated to meet DEI quotas.

So far, all the information about this game, is very underwhelming I will wait and see when they release all the info about gameplay and franchise, but for me as of right now, it's a pass for me.

I will just play 23 if nothing changes.

I think they're upset because (1) resources were used to incorporate this rather than fix legacy issues that have plagued this game for decades, (2) resources were used for this rather than upgrading graphics and gameplay, and (3) people want realism. Franchise lovers want to recreate baseball. And, while adding women might be a great fantasy addition, that's what it remains, fantasy.

Unless I misread something, this sounds so dumb. So the only updates and new features to RTTS is if you make a female character? It sounds like if I want to make a male character, I'm out of luck. Why wouldn't you update the mode for everyone? Maybe I'm missing something.

Some guy in this very thread got banned on his 20 year old OS account because he was so rabidly upset about this. There is definitely a component of the backlash that is purely about female players existing in some modes of the game.

For those claiming they are focusing on player numbers and catering to the majority: I'm currently working on the last few trophies I need for the 23 Plat and just noticed that only 2.3% of players even finished the Negro Leagues Storylines.

And only 6.2% of players (on Xbox) drafted a player in Franchise or MTO (which happens halfway through year 1). Guess franchise improvements are a waste of time too.
