If MLB the Show had NBA 2K's franchise customization with a start today feature I'd never stop playing.
The ability to change award winners, overide CPU/CPU trades, add an international signing period for good measure and I'd die a happy man.

I hate to be that guy, but do we really need yet another thread to talk about the same dissatisfaction with franchise and other parts of the game?

        Re: Has it finally happened

I think that in a way they will be a victim of their own success. I am in no way saying that this will effect the sales numbers in the slightest though. What I mean by this is that for players like myself who only, or mainly, play franchise we are the ones most likely to skip a year or two. As the gameplay improves or kinks are ironed out, without actually substantive changes to the mode there really is no major reason to switch to a new version and have to start over.

It's obvious that we are in the minority and I am fine with that. Times and tastes change. I am still on a PS4 Pro so I have even less reason to "upgrade" as most. If/When I manage to get a PS5 I will most like upgrade for the Stadium Creator but that is really about it. I am in the Camp more aligned with Countryboy, though he is a collector and will buy the game regardless. with Y2Y saves I had 15 year franchise in the works and I never enjoyed the game more than I did during the releases of '14 to '20.

I was sitting out this year but I am intrigued by the new presentations. I do play a lot of MILB games so that alone has my interests. With some new names added I am hoping mine will be back in. Then add a layer of polish to everything and it might be a pickup for me.

But in the end Yes I think some of us are getting closer and closer to the skip a year or two crowd than we would be if year to year saves were still a thing.

          Re: Has it finally happened

The upgrades are 200 new animations and 3 inning mode. I don't sim and therefore 3 inning mode is worthless for me so the decision is whether 200 new animations are worth starting over with my franchise which is currently in late July 2024. Another factor is in manage mode - the only mode I play - bugs get introduces and never fixed. Bug reports are ignored.

Do I throw out my franchise to get new animations and see whether bugs that should have been patched in 2023 have been fixed - or will more bugs be added?

          I'll stay with 2023.

The only real reason I want to get the newer version is to have the commentary and player likeness for the new international players. Especially as a Padres fan. Also enjoy the smaller details. The stuff they add that doesn't get the headlines, extra animations, celebrations, small improvements to gameplay mechanics. The stuff that gets added to the little things thread every year essentially lol. Feels silly to pay for these minor upgrades. But I know myself too well, already reaching for my wallet.

It's not even remotely silly. If you enjoy it the new stuff like I do, buy it and have fun for another 12 months of solid baseball gaming.

I feel the same way. MyNBA is an incredible design. The NBA for me is probably my least liked big NA sports league but even I get pulled into their mode. Everything about it just makes sense and it feels like a mode built by developers who actually play their own game. I would be like a kid on Xmas eve if SDS were to announce some type of overhaul to their Franchise mode that included even a fraction of what is offered in 2k's.

I never knew putting out $59.99-$89.99 was so dramatic for some. Not being smart, I just don’t get it.

3 years ago I didn't even watch, or consider watching the NBA. I randomly decided to pick up NBA 2K22 and got really into it and now the NBA is probably my 2nd favorite sport to watch after MLB. I'm thinking it's partially due to how immersive the MyNBA mode is.

Yes. We need endless threads about it. Just the broken bullpen logic alone for the last half decade plus...

                        Re: Has it finally happened

Yeah since 2012 I had been buying the show, for MLB 21 I took a step back I was so mad that Y2Y saves was taken out and didn't like changes to gameplay like the check swings and XP not counting if you changed sliders.

so 21 I only played in October for month or so during the lockout and got it on reduced price. 23 I really only bought for the playoff schedule changes and twins uniform. 24?? normally today It would be xmas eve for me with excitement knowing midnight tonight id be played. but this year I feel sad I have no pre order in place and nothing exciting to look forward to tonight my tradition was usually watch a baseball movie waiting for midnight too.

so like madden 13 that took features out including franchise mode, I think MLB 21 maybe could have the protentional to be the beginning of the end. where every year the game is the same game with a roster update with features taken out and brought back in in 5 year cycles. in my opinion I think part of this reason was having it no longer consoles exclusive SOTS was taken out because of licensing with Microsoft for example. you can get away with making the same game over and over again in a recycle when on all consoles. not as much with exclusives when SONY would be relying on big changes to sell the game.

I couldn't tell what to think what this thread was going to be about when I tried to judge by the thread title. The only thing I could figure, when it had finally happened to Navin Johnson and he finally found out what his special purpose was. I just didn't know how that could connect to MLBTS.

For what it's worth, I still have my MLBTS21 and 22 franchise file active. It barely has a heartbeat but I'm not ready to take them off the ventilator yet. I probably played a couple dozen games in my franchise file for 22 after 23 released. And my franchise file for 19 I'll be damned if I ever let it die. Gotta keep it going just because it gives me complete freedom to run my bullpen the way I see fit. Long live LOOGY baseball.

I'm still on the fence. It's really hard for me to justify spending $70 on the game this year.

                                Re: Has it finally happened

I have a system where I play every AA and AAA team in tournament fashion to get as much reps as possible. I play each team five times (the pitching rotation). After that, I do franchise after the trade deadline and waiver period to have updated rosters like in real life.

I haven't reached my breaking point yet with franchise, but my patience is running thin. I was going to buy this edition this year, but this is the first time I have not been excited for the Show, ever.

My PS4 got stolen in February 2020, so the last MLBTS I played was 19, then I got an Xbox Series S in 2022, so I played the last two editions, and enjoyed them both. 23 is my second favorite behind 17 when Griffey became a legend.

The changes that we want and I can say we because I want the same changes, aren't like trying to go to Mars. These are easy things to implement, and should be in there already. We have tabs for player awards, why did that take forever to do?

We are not asking to go back to the Moon here, simple changes like AI bullpen logic, more ways to manage your team like budgets, even give us the ability to buy budget with stubs like before, trade more than three players at a time, just simple things like that, but it seems to be either 1. They can't do it. 2. They don't want to do it. There is no middle ground here.

I have played franchise or season mode on my sports games forever, I love the grind of playing with my favorite team and winning championships, I expect to have this mode to be updated yearly like the other modes do, but that's asking for too much, I guess.

The frustration with franchise has been like this for years, but this is the breaking point this year. I have played the last two MLBTS on Game Pass, so I have an option to buy it or not. I have no problem playing it for a year and getting the next one. I will probably buy every two years in the future if 25 is what I want, but Game Pass is a lifesaver because I can vote with my wallet. Win-win for me, still get to play my favorite sports game, but changes do need to be made, and it needs to happen fast.
