When choosing to get the new version or stick what matters?

So every year I get the new version of MLB the Show, Does not matter what they add or do not add, If anything I do it for updated rosters.

I know however that some people wait, they are even playing versions from many years back

What holds all the weight? Is it you have a franchise you are many seasons in and do not want to start over? Is it a features thing? Is it financial?

Interested in seeing the feedback in this thread…as for this will be the first year ever I won’t be buying…I’m content with my 24 franchise with all the time I spent editing rosters and setting up SOTS for each team…my decision could change if SOTS is available on the PS5 and there are major upgrades I’ve been burned pretty much every year with this game since 17

I love MLBTS19. I can run my bulpen the way I want, not the way Manfred wants. Nothing like a LOOGY.

Don’t play multi-years. One and done, every game. Then play winter ball until new game is released. I play full roster control, so doing the real in season trades, removing players out for the season, etc. keeps my interest. Plus new animations, etc., early release, best bang for the buck. Bring on 25.

For myself, it's the improvements made to the game overall, with a bigger focus on franchise and presentation.

If those improvements are significant enough, then I will start fresh with the newest installment of the game. If not, then I will keep playing the franchise I'm currently in and no worry about it.

I always buy the new version every year no matter what. The changes they make to gameplay, animations, and updated player likenesses are always enough for me to buy it. Plus, I'm assuming this year will be PS5 Pro Enhanced so I'm interested to see what that will entail.

Hey, I don't consider you or myself a sucker if it personally gives us enjoyment! The Show is always the game in my library that has the most hours played at the end of the year.

I guess it depends alot if you play the game year round or if you play a few other sports games and have limited timeframe to devote to it.

I'm sure most get their money's worth or have gamepass anyway but I can certainly see why some wouldn't feel the need to purchase any sports game every year or wait until the huge discount at years end to buy and generally stay a year behind.

I remember anticipating buying Strat-o-Matic cards to do a replay of the previous season so that's not much difference. All depends what a person wants out of the game. Some want everything current and perfect and some want their own little universe in a sports game.

Baseball is my favorite sport so playing it year round is a cinch. And all it takes for me to save is put back like a $1.50 every week. It amounts to around one less cold drink a week. So in effect, I'm drinking healthier because of MLBTS, lol.

That is crazy, I have never thought about it like that. 1 drink a week? That is only one glass of water instead of a soda. Crazy!!!

On topic, I buy this game every year and it is the only sports game I buy every year. It never disappoints me as baseball is my favourite sport to play in a video game. I also still play Baseball Stars on the NES because that was the first game I played where you could name players and improve them, fire them, hire them, etc. I always created the BlueJays and it was always fun to try to make players names recognizable with only 6 characters.

Stieb was easy, so was Olerud, but Canseco became Cnseco, Fernandez became Frnndz. But my all time favorite was Candy Maldonado whcih became Mldndo.

Re: When choosing to get the new version or stick what matters?

I play every pitch of every game. I never used carryover saves because I like starting each new version of the game fresh. So, for me, it really comes down to "do the improvements outweigh ending this dynasty to start over?"

The only version I've ever skipped is 22. That's because I was having such a blast with 21, I couldn't justify starting over. If I'm being honest, I kind of wish I had skipped 23 too.

Right now, I'm 50/50 on sticking with 24 or going to 25.

Reasons to stick with 24 for me:
                              • I'm having a blast
                              • I'm really connected to my current dynasty (even after not playing for a few months)
                              • The gameplay is REALLY good, probably the best it's ever been
                              • My Braves (with the default roster) are loaded

Reasons to go to 25 for me:
                              • PS5 Pro enhanced (in all likelihood)
                              • Maybe bullpen AI will be better
                              • Maybe trade logic will be better
                              • Maybe contract logic will be better
                              • The Braves are maybe too loaded in 24, so 25 may be a better challenge (especially with the Mets loading up)
                              • A proper Spencer Schwellenbach
                              • A bunch of the Vols from the national championship team should be in the game
