Currently still hopping on 24 from time to time to get my fix, having checked out the trailers so far and while not TOO bad, there is definitely nothing there that moves the needle for me to jump in, possibly when it gets a major price drop? maybe, maybe not, 24 is playing really good.

What stood out right away was all those damn meters...lol my goodness, if they wanted to see how many meters they could shove into the game, then they definitely succeeded there.

I'm sure all that can be turned off though, although I do worry about KnightTemplar and his crusade to get that dreaded blue circle to be able to be toggled off...lol

People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

As an auto field and I never use meter throwing I'm glad that reaction attributes will matter for infielders like it does for the OF. I'll give assisted fielding a go like every year. But after I mess up very badly a few times I eventually revert back to auto fielding.

Hopefully GOAT difficulty is for pitching too. Even though I use timing hitting interface, it would be nice to still be able to use the new ambush hitting. Hopefully that is the case, because if not I'm probably never going to fully use the new gameplay additions.

They really started off the video saying "we have heard your feedback fans" and putting a "visual quality may depend on your hardware" message and then showed the same dated player model doing a dance from 2017. Fitting the game looks the exact same as that year

I love auto fielding, it sets me in the frame of mind as a pitcher dependent onhis teammates behind him. I wouldn't mind seeing the Show fielding evolving to the point you could choose between infield and outfield settings of auto and manual, and auto fielding or manual on pop flies and groundballs. The perfect setting for my taste would be:
            Infield groundball - Auto.
            Catcher fielding bunts - Manual.
Infield (and catcher ) popup - Manual.
            Outfield groundball - Manual.
            Outfield flyball - Auto.

All of that would take some pretty serious and elaborate coding.
It wouldn't be simple by any stretch of the imagination.

All throwing would be set to manual for me.
No meter, throwing accuracy completely dependent on fielder arm strength and accuracy.

And an option for the fielder circle, off for me.
            T-BONE.

            Talking about things nobody cares.

The textures of the dirt look improved but it still looks super flat with some bread crumbs around home plate and during slides. So far not really impressed.
Yeah, I'd have to agree. The whole thing about "well if you zoom in we can see how better the grass looks...."

Myself and others don't play this game in replay mode. If players can't tell that the textures have significantly improved while actually playing the game, then they failed. Sorry, but if I have to zoom in to see "improvements" that I otherwise wouldn't have seen while actual fielding a ball then...what are we doing here.

I’m normally excited about the new game coming out this time of year, but this year The news is very underwhelming, and I can’t remember the last time I haven’t been excited for a new baseball game…

Curious to see how ambush hitting plays out in-game. I could see myself using it in 2-0 or 3-1 counts, but not sure how often I'd use it otherwise. I do think it will be a more realistic "approach tool" than guess pitch is. From what I understand, it seems like if you "ambush" on the inner half, your PCI will be larger on the inner half and smaller on the outer half regardless of you guess correctly. It also seems like there's no feedback of knowing if you actually guess right - you still have to read the pitch and decide if you want to swing.

Infield reaction - nice that it was added, but I also hope you can turn the visual off.

Throw meter - this has the chance to be huge. Getting perfect throws was too easy - especially in the outfield and there wasn't much risk in trying for one with the marker at the center. I also hardly ever get outfield assists without a perfect throw, so this could really added a needed challenge to outfield throws.

HR Robberies - this looks promising as well, I hope it's not too easy to rob homers though. Glad it's still largely based on fielder ratings.

Overall, looks solid but not spectacular.

Ambush hitting is useless to me since I haven’t used guess pitch since 07.

However I do like the small changes made. Infield reactions, making the throw meter perfect more difficult, and GOAT difficulty seem like positives. I didn’t expect much in gameplay updates anyway since I liked 24 gameplay, but will be looking for much more from the modes themselves so will be checking those videos more detailed.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Gameplay Updates Deep Dive

This is my favorite time of year because my "Ignore" button gets to work a little overtime so I don't have to hear about how little these people are impressed with the game and won't buy it before they actually see it in action, in every thread there is.

Anyway, I like all the changes. The throw meter will be great as it will force me to be a little bit less aggressive on routine plays and make me think twice about trying to throw that runner out at home when the bases are full.

Meh, to the homerun robbery. This happen so little in baseball that I can take ti or leave it.

The fielder reaction time is great as others have mentioned because it should separate the good fielders from the great and the bad.

I don't play on high difficulty so the GOAT difficulty will not affect me, but I hope that whoever uses it gets the challenge they are looking for.

Ambush hitting...this, I think, will be the best improvement and the most legit "baseball" improvement. As someone who played the game one fo the first things you are taught is to cut the plate in half. You will hear it talked about during games and even in movies. you cut the plate in half and look for the ball on your half. This is baseball 101 so this addition, because it really is nothing like Guess Pitch, will make this game feel more realistic. I use zone hitting to replicate this in 24 as one maybe a 2-0 pitch you are looking for an up and in fastball, so with the cursor I can guess that. I agree with what someone else said, it is nice to get a little bonus for only swinging on the side of the plate that you were looking at.

IMO this just took the game from a will buy to a definite pre-order.

This “deep dive” makes me nostalgic to the real deep dives in the past on Twitch where the devs would highlight a new feature and then show dozens of examples in game on the fly so we could see the impact these changes made and thought process behind it. I guess just under 3 minutes is the maximum attention span their audience has these days..

Re: MLB The Show 25 Gameplay Updates Deep Dive

Good gracious do the animations look dated and stiff as hell in this game now. Total lack of momentum, weight, or fluidity. I know it’s all motion captured, but the player models being left relatively unchanged for decades now, combined with all of these canned animations that break off into other animations… the game is showing major rust on its facade.

Even the wall climbs look janky to me. And the abrupt stop by those infielders when they’re trying to feature their “jumps” towards the ball… oof. That Tatis throw from RF to home looked awful! He’s a pretty decent fielder. Dude looked like he was clueless out there camping under that pop fly without any anticipation or momentum to deliver the ball home.

And lastly, my final takeaway from this video is how much clutter and flashing lights are all over the screen with all of this. This game used to be beautiful on its own merits in just replicating baseball. The sights, sounds, and little things made this game an annual gem. Now it’s arcade looking with large meters that have like 5 colors all over the place, ginormous batter’s eyes, and fugly wall meters to try and time a catch (which apparently you do like one thing and then watch everything else play out with no other input or impact on the situation and outcome). I know you can turn some of, if not most of, these things off. But the game is designed for these to be included and impact the outcomes. Every year the focus on actual baseball and playing a 9 inning game and 162 game season is less and less.

The more I think about it the more I really love the perfect throw now being at the end of the green zone instead of in the middle. This really creates the perfect risk-reward when loading your throw and makes the fielding gameplay again a tad more fun and makes you think a little bit more about the situation, like in real baseball.

Having said that, I really hope they get rid of the slight camera shift that happens when you or the cpu is going to make a throwing error. This ruins the surprise when you get the meter in the yellow and the throw could go either way.

Interesting Deep Dive, Really nothing in it bothers me or excites me as I do not play with a lot of the extra bars, visuals and such. the game play to me has been great. I am more waiting on the under the hood franchise stuff.

And, would you beleive, SDS has done us a favor : all the '24 stats are in ! Yes ! So why spend 100 bucks when The Show 24 is a super game ? And the Show 25 will have the same '24 stats... that we already have ! Elementary, my dear Watson !
