It’s my understanding that if you guess inside, your pci will be bigger when you have it placed inside and smaller if you have it placed outside (and vice versa). You won’t know if it’s coming inside or outside, but if it is pitched inside your pci will already be bigger. Basically just choosing which side of the plate you want to have a bigger/smaller pci.

Re: Ambush Hitting in MLB The Show 25, Explained
For offline this kinda feels like another thing on the pile of stuff I'll house rule myself out of because the CPU can't/won't use it. If there's enough of a risk/reward element present that it balances out I might give it a look though.
Online is where this is really going to be a big change. And there's a lot of potential for it to be extremely overpowered in that arena.Comment

Re: Ambush Hitting in MLB The Show 25, Explained
Ok, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
But this new Ambush hitting, kind of like what we have been doing with Directional for years right? I can guess (RH Batter) inside and or outside. If I guess inside (Right Stick towards my batter, but swing at a pitch on other side of the zone I get hit with a penalty with my vision/contact ratings etc.
Feels like they just kind of cleaned it up a bit and added it to Zone?
I like the change, but this has basically been here all along just under the Directional side of things.Twitch

But with directional we have more zones to push our stick to vs just guessing left side or right side.
But it seems similar. And this new feature is only for zone hitting so your post makes sense. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Ambush Hitting in MLB The Show 25, Explained
I like it pretty much after the twitch stream, it helps that I already use zone hitting ánd that you can decide for yourself what pitch you want to do it…like how you often approach it in real life."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

I feel like for me this will help with seeing pitches better with zone when playing online against the better opponents. Seeing my PCI get bigger/smaller will help me lay off pitches more. At least thats how I think it will work for me, who knows though lol.Twitch

Re: Ambush Hitting in MLB The Show 25, Explained
In real life, a hitter may look inside/outside but doesn't know before the pitch is thrown that their intended "ambush" zone is the correct zone; so, is there a way to turn off the notification that the correct zone was guessed? Seems unrealistic to get a such indication.Comment

Ambush will not tip you off to the pitch location regardless of guessing the correct side of the plate. It's going to enlarge your PCI (by one difficulty level) on the two-thirds that you guess (including the middle third which will always count for either guess) regardless of where the pitch is going. It will also reduce it by two difficulty levels on the third that you don't guess, regardless of which side the ball goes to.
It's similar to guess pitch with no feedback, but even then there's a slightly different nuance to it as the increase/penalty applies regardless of the pitch location.Comment

Re: Ambush Hitting in MLB The Show 25, Explained
It’s a good mechanic. That adds some extra strategy and gives the pitcher something else to think about. People need to relax.
I hope they take it a step further and try to recreate MVP’s “pitch recognition system” in some form or fashion.
