I basically took last year off of RTTS and dove head first into DD (I was so bad at hitting that I figured DD would be a fun way to practice and I did get much better at it.) This year, I expect to play a bunch more of RTTS along with DD. Excited!

Re: MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show Deep Dive
The deliverable is emotion.
What it looks like they're doing with the deep open, from my end, is giving the user more emotional "ins" with their character.
So, by the time you DO get to the bigs, having gotten through potentially five different "levels" of development (high school, combine, college, AA, AAA) instead of three, you'll already have that many more reasons to care.
I also noticed a few more "pans" in what had previously been either static or "dolly" environmental shots. That's subtle, and it might just be the movie nerd in me talking, but better "space" is better "place," and that's better world-building.
The "see the final out" option on quick sims, is an essential feature that I didn't know had been missing, if that makes sense.
The whole player development system, definitely has a TON of potential builds. I'm already considering two separate toons, one focusing on perk power, the other on frequency.
Definitely some meat on this one, and a marked improvement.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show Deep Dive
I don't see why there wouldn't be space, even when it was on the PS4...EA's NHL for example...NHL, AHL, ECHL, SHL, The Finnish league, Czech league, German (?) league, PWHL, all 60 teams from the CHL...when you add them up, there are somewhere in the vicinity of 200ish teams in the game, all comprising of 20-23 players, meaning that (This is a rough guesstimation), there are potentially over 4400 players in the game, not including free agents.
MLB the Show has around 2790, not including free agents.
In fairness, I'm sure that it takes up more space having 30 MLB ballparks, as well as a number of minor league/classic parks, as opposed to hockey arenas, which are fairly standard.
All of that being said, I'd assume that the roster size issue is less about having the ability to have bigger rosters, and more about:
-The AI struggling with progression/regression on a large scale.
-AI struggling with actual roster creation in Franchise, including with contracts.
-An overall lack of interest from a user desire in having to manage an even larger roster in franchise mode.
The last one is why I think we'll never even sniff the greatness of OOTP...there are simply not enough of us who want to go that deep into franchise mode. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely do...I want a the full experience when it comes to building/maintaining an organization, but there are also many more people who either lack the attention span, or desire to do more that run a simple franchise (or play diamond dynasty instead...).
Give me large roster sizes, give me an International signing period, and give me a more in-depth stadium creator! Heck, if you're rolling with some NCAA stuff in this game, give it the full rollout!
But, I think it's safe to say that none of that is happening any time soon (aside from maybe some upgrades to stadium creator?)Comment

Now if only they would bring back the switch to sim/skip/play options as an in-game button instead of having to go to the settings menu each time I want to change it.Check out youtube.com/RedTedisbackComment

Re: MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show Deep Dive
I like the potential of RTTS this year. I like having control of progression and individual ratings. Never cared for being reliant on loadouts, perks, and equipment. I like the high school and college inclusion. As someone who likes to play single player career modes, I think it's important to have enough depth throughout the first season. Typically, most people only get through a season or two of a career mode. So, having enough depth throughout the first full professional season is key. Going through the senior season, then college, then combine, then AAA, AA, then the MLB is more than enough to make it worthwhile.Comment

Say what we want about Madden. They at least put more effort in trying year 2 year. They might fail but at least they try. SD just man. Ish is pathetic. I hate that excuse they are a small team. SD are the most complacent greedy company out the 4 major sports imo.
RTTS should be god tier and its not that makes me sadComment

Re: MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show Deep Dive
I would love for Sony to get healthy competition with multiple MLB games to play, but as much as I loved EA MVP, I don't think EA cancer is healthy competition Sony needs. And sadly, I don't think 2k is capable of giving the Show any type of competition. That foe is permanently vanquished. I loved CFB this year but its only a matter of time before EA takes CFB the Madden route.T-BONE.

They've almost completely overhauled RTTS, from the amateur opening, to the player progression. And player progression is the real meat and potatoes, as far as outside the lines content goes.
A one-year dev cycle is arguably pushing it, in terms of the tech available these days. Back in the days when we still talked about bit counts, limited hardware meant there was only so much they could put in a game, so, annual releases? Easy peasy. These days, with more complex hardware, networked everything, and the whole post-launch ecosystem, it's a different environment. We're already seeing licensed dirt racing and golf games switching to semiannual dev cycles, and how long the big five will hold out is anyone's guess.
Now, are there areas for improvement in RTTS? Certainly. Contract negotiations, especially in free agency, could slow down a bit and get more cinematic. Give some extra weight and emotional heft on the UX, to what can be the single biggest financial decision some RL players will make in their lives.
See, the fundamental problem with longitudinal design, is the compression of space and time. What do you show, and what do you skip? But the deliverable is emotion, so you have to be able to show the emotional moments, while skipping the humdrum. Which sounds easy, until you consider that some of the more emotional moments, are borne out from a whole lot of humdrum: see, e.g., the Cubs and Red Sox winning their first World Series in any of our lifetimes.
Then, too, there's the balancing act between user agency and narrative focus, which few games truly perfect.
So, there's a lot that goes into mode design, before a single line of code gets written. I'm not unsympathetic to dev teams of Triple-A licensed sports games with annual dev cycles.
And finally, if you want to see a do-nothing career mode dev team, I'm gonna say exactly three letters: NHL.Comment

I agree. This years RTTS has the potential to be one of my favorite single player career mode. My viewpoint is limited since I don’t play EA FC, NHL, Golf. For me, when I look at career modes, I look for a few things. Those important aspects are Gameplay, Depth, customization, replay ability, and good presentation. Most feel like shallow. It feels like practice, play game, improve players, advance and repeat. Or you get stuck with a cheesy made for TV storyline. I really like the idea of starting from High School, earning scholarships, going to College, trying to be a high draft pick, playing in the minors, then MLB. Depth is important. I don’t need a cheesy storyline. But, I want to feel like I’m going on a journey
Comparing it to other sports career modes, I like how it stacks up. I got turned off from Mycareer in NBA2K. As an offline player, I refuse to play it anymore as it is now. The mode is too online centric and money hungry. I’m not trying to spend real money on VC to not start at a 60 OVR for an offline career. I don’t like how restrictive builds can be. As far as Superstar Mode and Road to Glory, I don’t like how they limited the positions available to play as. Both modes were still shallow. I did like Superstar Mode custom builds. But, I really like how RTTS progression. If I’m playing offline, let me play my way up to all 99s. Most of these sports career modes are too restrictive on builds. I can understand if it could be tied into online. But, these modes all try to portray your player being the GOAT, meanwhile you can’t be as good as a current superstar at that sport. Make it a grind. It’ll be fun grinding your player to be a true superstar, not just another guyComment

Adding high school and college in to the game plus putting points into any category up to 99. That is a great start to a good return to form for RTTS.MLB: Chicago Cubs
NFL: San Diego Chargers
NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
NBA: Chicago Bulls
NCAA: Iowa HawkeyesComment

Re: MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show Deep Dive
From the video, it sounds like the agent will be in regular contact this year. Hopefully that also brings back the ability to demand a trade or request a position change. I bought The Show 24 after a few years away from the series, and the radio silence from the agent in RTTS was disappointing. In the past I've enjoyed RTTS the most when I've been a malcontent, demanding a trade every year or two. Changing teams periodically keeps things interesting for me, especially during the six years leading up to free agency.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show Deep Dive
I haven't bought the game in years but at least now I'm thinking about it. Still undecided but a better mind set going in.. Just not sure if I want to pay $70.
On a side note: I've always enjoyed the 'before the show' more. Which is why once I get to the majors I generally just start another character..Favorites:

Re: MLB The Show 25 Road To The Show Deep Dive
I always prefer the journey/grind over the destination in all sports career modes. Once I get the point where I'm dominating, I lose interest. The journey is what keeps me interested. So, starting from HS to College, then Minors, then Majors should provide a good journey. I don't think the HS season is that long, but I wonder how long the college seasons are and how many seasons we could do. I would do 3-4 years in college. So for me, that would be HS, 3-4 years in College, about 2 seasons in Minors before I get to the majors. I usually only ever play a season to a season half and all sports games. So having a pre-Majors journey would make the mode worthwhile..
I'm hit or miss with the unspoken cutscenes. It's similar with Madden's Superstar mode. Probably saves a lot of resources and time to not have to do the voice recording and mo-cap. But, seeing the unspoken lines between games that's supposed to be storylines doesn't really immerse me.Comment
