Can’t disagree in the terms of the Raiders (Davis) ruining it but I still loved the stadium for how ugly, dysfunctional & historic it was.

      Oh snap, he went there.

I wish we could start with any real stadium in the game and then tweak it from there.
Then we could start with the Coliseum in 24 then carry it over to the 25 vault.

That’s my thoughts exactly. It was one of those “so bad it’s good” things.

For me he’s the E.T. of stadiums : theorically ugly and unaesthetic but at same time that’s all his charm and what makes him unique and appealing.

The Coliseum is a loathsome offensive brute, yet I cannot look away. It transcends time and space. It sickens me. I love it.

It had an incredible and unique atmosphere. Maybe it’s just bias, but it genuinely felt like lightning in a bottle—something that can’t be replicated anywhere. The Show 22's depiction of the Coliseum had a great atmosphere, with the iconic chants of “Let’s go Oakland,” along with the sounds of drums, cowbells, and vuvuzelas, really bringing it to life. It just sucks that all of that seemed to disappear in 23/24 :/

23 is also when they removed the tarps from the upper deck only to replace them with... nothing. Having a third of the main bowl just being this empty black void was such a huge eyesore in MLB 23 and 24. Not to mention some of the other long-standing issues with the Coliseum that were never addressed in-game (the oversized, jumbo light towers, for instance).

In real-life, I'll always defend the Coliseum, too. I went to 100 or so games over the last 20 years and while it was always outdated, it was never decrepit or falling apart (at least, not until the A's stopped caring about maintenance towards the end).

The fans in the bleachers were unlike any other group in Major League Baseball, and, on top of it all, the Coliseum had, unironically, one of the best baseball climates in the country. High temps for the vast majority of the season being in the 70s and low 80s with little to no humidity.

While I'm a Giants fan first and foremost, there have been stretches of my life where I've preferred the live game experience in Oakland over Oracle.

                NFL: San Francisco 49ers
                NHL: San Jose Sharks
                MLS: San Jose Earthquakes
                EPL: Brentford FC

As a Mets fan, that’s kind of how I felt about Shea. CitiField is 100x better than Shea, but Shea’s crappiness and weird run down kind of feel made it fun. I like Citi better but miss parts of Shea.

As for the Coliseum, I just wish they left it alone. The backdrop from before was so much better. It felt like a true old school baseball stadium both in person and on TV. I mean look at the comparison:

The background on my phone right now is literally Shea Stadium hahaha

So many good memories as a kid/ teenager, I still miss it!

If the A’s had never added Mt. Davis to try and incentivize the Raiders to stay in Oakland, I don’t think they would have ever left. The stadium would likely be on the same level as Angel Stadium or even Dodger Stadium

Agreed. And it made them not be able to make use of it properly for baseball. Added additional costs they didn’t need and made it not as fun for the fans sitting in the outfield.

Just a quick point about the Coliseum (which was way better before Mt Davis) - The A’s were never in charge of maintenance at the end (or at any time). The team even wrote the stadium authority (run by the city) about the maintenance issues in 2022.

“In Oakland, the Coliseum and the neighboring Oakland Arena, once home to the Golden State Warriors, have always been owned and operated by the city of Oakland and Alameda County, dating back to 1966.”

I’ve been to all 3. I even went to the coliseum way back in 2008 before it started falling apart. It had never been on par with Angels or Dodgers stadiums lol. Then again the city never put any money into the place. Anaheim has put hundreds of millions of dollars into the Big A, and the dodgers ownership has really modernized the stadium and added fan experiences to traditionally empty portions of the ball park. The coliseum has its charm I am sure, but has always had a long way to go to being major league quality. I remember when one of the broadcast booths had a raccoon living in it. That was a funny story lol

Oakland would have been better off without building Mt. Davis and spending that money on other upgrades. The city of Oakland failed its citizens as much as John Fisher AFAIC.
