Yes...but there are a lot of elements of the game that are not real. I think that is his point. For instance, we can no longer see our pitchers warm up. May not seem like a big deal but if you are going for realism it is.

If you really want realism then you would just buy OOTP every year. But realism has to include presentation and other elements that are not represented in games like OOTP.

Every sports game should be looking at what 2k has done, and that includes 2k. They’ve dropped off the last couple of years and have gotten away from adding in the details that they did before and the product has been hurt by it a bit, even though the gameplay is still great.

Also maybe we are thinking of different years of the game, but 2k’s baseball game was absolutely horrible. When they got the license over EA’s MVP, it ruined baseball titles on all platforms until SDS had to make it for cross-platform a few years ago. Outside of the presentation bit (long live Johnny Miller and RIP Joe Morgan), the 2k baseball series played horribly and the gameplay was notoriously bad and filled with bugs.

I’d much rather see EA come back in with MVP again since that was setting the standard at the time. Don’t know that I’d trust EA to not mess it up like they have with their other series, but MVP 2005 is still up there as one of the better baseball games of all time. But SDS has always been the gold standard for baseball games, it’s just hard to see that now since nobody is competing with them anymore.
And my point was I don't care what engine they use...just follow 2k lead.

I can see my pitchers warm up. Manage mode press box view.

Even if EA would want to kickstart MVP Baseball again there’s probably no one left from that development team at EA.

I meant to comment on that point that I agreed completely, but then I thought about MLB 2k9 and my mind got side tracked because of how much I hated that game.

2K has great sports games but MLB the Show is Einstein vs Caveman compared to those games or any other baseball video game. My biggest complaint is they get sidetracked and don't focus enough developer time on franchise.

The only possible upside I see to getting a new graphics engine would be to free up developers to do other things but I'm not confident they would spend more time on franchise. The downside is gameplay gets messed up for the sake of graphics.
