    Pitcher Repertoires

Is anyone else seeing a ton of pitchers on the base roster having Sweepers they aren’t supposed to have?

    Re: Pitcher Repertoires

A pitcher's repertoire being correct has always been a 50/50 proposition at best, not sure why you're acting surprised.

Short of waiting for a pitch-edits roster and using that, I just make the edits myself as I go along in franchise. Has been a necessity for like 17 years.
    Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

It's less that and tons of them having Sweepers. Last I played was in 2023 when all of them had Knuckle Curves lol.

Tanner Houck is one i have noticed, has a sweeper instead of a slider.

Houck throws a sweeper per Baseball savant. It is sort of the "in" pitch these days so lots of guys do throw it

Their slider sweeps across the zone and has exceptional depth.

a ton of sweepers but that might be based off of movement instead of what they actually call each pitch.

My biggest gripe is pitchers who throw more than 5 pitches. Would love to be able to get a 6th pitch option

Bryce Miller was interviewed yesterday and said he now has 8 pitches he is comfortable throwing in games.

The data will bear out that 3 or 4 of them will be used sparingly... but its funny to me that SDS will bow to this erroneous "sweeper" phenomenon but it won't feature accurate repertoires?

Lol what's erroneous about the sweeper?

I think the biggest hurdle to adding more pitches is the lack of buttons to use...not saying they can't get creative and add a combination of a trigger/button to expand the selection, but alot of those controls are already utilized for other actions.

Thats a very good point, for sure.

.. erroneous was probably the wrong word choice regarding the sweeper.

I grew up watching Randy Johnson. His slider was like nothing anyone had ever seen at the time. He essentially gave it a pet name, he didn't insist that it be renamed or rebranded.

The phenomenon is entirely stupid, for my money. A slider is a slider.

(and get off my lawn while you're at it... )

I sorta get it about all renaming pitches that already exist to some extent.....I won't tell you about the "death ball" then

The new names are a little subjective. I think the "sweeper" is different enough from a traditional slider to warrant being classified as something else, but for the most part calling it a slider isn't "wrong" by any means

This is a design problem. PYS (and other baseball games) figured out this problem years ago by mapping the pitches to the analog stick and allowing the user to access more pitches with a single button click.

Yeah, definitely not against the sweeper but I'm thinking between Slider, Curve, 12-6 Curve, Knucklecurve, Sweeping Curve, Slurve they covered most of the angles, but maybe this one is different. More is always better, I'm surprised they had to even get rid of the running fastball for it.

That said if they are going to add pitches, like pitchers do in real life, they should be able to accommodate that by now. Triggers are the easy solution to double up the count and we could remap those in some way like someone suggested. Seems like something they might save for a yearly cycle where they need another feature to add
