I think they misnamed the sweeper. They should have named it swurve.
Waiting for The Show to add the gyro now. And what they really need to do is add a sixth pitch as an option instead of limit it to five. Also, let you choose to throw six of the same pitch if you want to, or two of the same pitch or any combination you want.

A few years ago they got rid of one of the changeups (I'm thinking maybe Palmball) and then brought it back a year or two later, so there is hope and precedence it could come back.

Isn’t the “gyro” that pitch that Daisuke Matsusaka used to throw?

You're going to try to tell me Mr Snappy was a sweeper?

Not buying and won't ever buy.

This is all just a byproduct of this generation being obsessed with velocity.

Some guys can really spin it now, similar to Randy. Most can't.

A gyro is essentially just an extremely "ineffecient" slider....(and ineffecient isn't a negative term in this sense)

In other words it spins like a spiral (which is "gyroscopic" spin - hence the name. A lot of times you'll hear it called a "bullet" spin). A ball thrown with perfect gyroscope spin has no back spin or front spin or side spin to influence the direction it "breaks" so all of it's movement is due to gravity.

I feel like 989's MLB had him throwing the gyro. IIRC.

And 989 is what San Diego Studio was before the The Show. Or at least a lot of employees moved from 989 to SDS.

Yeah, I hear the similar about the slurve. The "experts" say if you throw a slurve, its because your either throwing a crappy curve, or a crappy slider, lol.

It's just a fancy name for a slider variant...in the end, it's still a slider and I will die on that hill . A current MLB pitching coach said this to me a week ago:

The sweeper isn’t some brand new pitch, it’s been around forever. Sliders with big horizontal break have been thrown for decades. Just because someone decided to give it a fancy new name doesn’t mean they invented something new.

It would be pretty cool if we could rename a players pitch type inside their player edit window.

One last thing, someone wasn't very thorough when swapping the running fastball out for the sweeper.
In the in-game guide where it defines abbreviations, they left in RFB for running fastball but omitted adding the abbreviation for the new sweeper.

When I was a kid Pee Wee Reese and Dizzy Dean were the broadcasters on the game of the week which was the only game on tv all week where I lived.

I think Dizzy called a changeup a "slowball".

The biggest issue with the "sweeper" in-game is that it is modeled with way to much vertical break. Whereas IRL, anything more than 4-inches is being classified as a different pitch type (most of the time).
