Re: How to defend against exploits in DD

Regarding the warping pitches/knuckle-fastballs, etc. Is the consensus that this is caused by lag switching? Played someone where the game didn't feel that laggy, some fielding lag when I was batting, but nothing crazy. But their pitches warped nearly every pitch. I had to guess on the location every pitch and when you are facing Nolan Ryan that makes it almost impossible to hit. Near the end of the game it seemed to stop and I ended up hitting a home run and then back to warping pitches.

If you haven't seen this it is very strange. The pitch comes in at about the same speed/time, but it will go one direction and then quickly change and warp to another. I.e. Ryan throws a 98 mph fastball up and away, you swing, but the ball ends up inside.

The person I played claimed it happens a lot to them so either they were giving me BS or maybe their network is garbage and causes this glitch to occur.

ya, the very first DD game i played was against a guy who was just exploiting it all. i quit after the 4th because it was just ridiculous to even bother with it.

Re: How to defend against exploits in DD

In the 9th there were 2 outs and I was down 5-1 but had two guys on base. With two strikes on pinch hitting Beltran my opponent brought in Neshek. I tried to call timeout but he quick pitched and of course threw a changeup and Beltran struck out swinging early to end the game.

I'd say this was a pretty cheap thing to do. The count was 2-2 and the previous reliever had only been in the game for one inning anyways. Please bring back balks!

Re: How to defend against exploits in DD

I had a bizarre game this morning. I had an hour before heading out today so I said WTF let's get in a DD game.

I connected with a stout team ranked 1575 (92-75). Their lineup was:

          Carew - 2B
          Cutch - CF
          Trout - LF
          Bagwell - 1B
Floyd - SS (I know cheese)
          Ted Williams - RF
          Brett - 3B
          Yogi - C
          Fernandez - P

I had Hershiser on the hill. I played great and even had bases loaded twice drawing 4 walks in the first 4 innings. But I managed zero runs as he was able to punch himself off the ropes and make some great pitches and turn a few double plays. The game was awesome. Then he tagged Orel for a solo HR with Ted Williams in the 5th.

Top of 6 the wheels fell off for Hershiser. I ended up surrendering 5 more runs and found myself down 6-1 going into the 7th. I chased Fernandez out of the game and it was 6-2. As he again pitched his way out of a 2nd and 3rd jam with one out. I had plenty of chances to bring in runs and just came up short.

After trading runs in the 8th I found myself down 8-3 going into the bottom of the 9th.

He had Rosenthal on the bump and I tagged him for a run to make it 8-4 with one out. Man on second. I then steal third ( With Kenny Lofton who came in on a double switch for Cutch) he then walks Puig....then he intentionally walks my son to load the bases. Up comes the crime dog who laces a single to score 2.

          8-6 with 2nd and 3rd.

He makes a pitching change and low and behold......freaking Mike Trout is on the mound. I was like WTF is going on????

Harper pops out and now we have 2 outs.....Trout is still on the bump...I can't believe this!

He intentionally walks Brett.....now my pitcher slot is up from a double switch so I PH Jose Altuve for Jansen.

          Bases Loaded.

I blast a base clearing triple to win 9-8

Why in gods green earth did he pitch trout and hand me this win? I even messaged him on PSN....he never responded. He had this game well in hand and just basically handed me the win.

It was the most bizarre game I have had on Diamond Dynasty.

I played a 19 inning game last night so both teams were gassed out in the pitching department. In the bottom of the 19th inning I'm trailing 6-5 with a man on. My opponent switched his tired pitcher with his created player. This is a clever move even though he has two pitches available. My next batter was a Carpenter. So, my opponent switched positions on the bump with a left handed position player to create a lefty/lefty matchup. I hit a walk-off opposite field home run.

              Never been so angry.

Bunt, stolen base, Perfect Bunt, Stolen base...

Anyone with decent speed is freaking stealing the base like nothing.

And the bunts? oh my jesus

Change your defense to bunt defense everytime, that's what has helped me with guys like Gordon and Hamilton

I haven't run into any warping/lag pitches in a while, but someone I played today it happened almost every pitch. Nothing you can do except guess on occasion. If you try to hit normally and react you simply will put your PCI in the wrong places. Looks like a high curveball, nope down and in. Looks like a fastball outside, nope, up and in.

I have no tips for this except try to guess based on their tendencies. Not much else you can do.

Re: How to defend against exploits in DD

Yesterday pretty much broke me away from wanting to play randoms.

Noticed in the first inning right away that every time I put a ball in play, it would like like crazy. And I've played people with bad connections where this happens, but it doesn't last long. However, it was almost damn near a minute between me hitting the ball and the next batter coming up.

Got 2 runs in the first. Then he comes up, and let's just say he executed the entire list of cheese in that bottom 1st. Bunts, baserunning exploits, and the game decided to give me 2 errors too. He ends up with 2 runs, and at this point I realize I have to put up with this for 8 more innings.

We get to the 7th, it's still deadlocked at 2-2 (I had to put up with 3 more innings of him getting on base and doing the cheeser's thing) and I pinch hit Floyd in for a 2 run homer...shortly after my game starts lagging like crazy on just about everything. And then? Blue screen crash.

I just don't understand how people have fun doing this kind of stuff.

As for countering these exploits...before the game I actually go to every speedy batter in their lineup and assign bunt defense. If they get a groundball on me past them, whatever. But I refuse to lose to bunters.

And I wish there was a way so that they can tell what our defensive alignment is without having to press down R3, and I wish we could change it without them seeing. I get SO irritated when I'm pitching and I have to see them peeking at the defense.

Guy is up 6-0 in the top of the 9th with 2 outs and he brings in Kimbrel because its a righty/righty matchup. Why would someone do this? Are they really going this far to protect their ERA or something?

I wish they made it easier, but I disagree about them not being able to see the defensive shifts and bunt defense. In real life, batters can obviously see the defensive positions and try to put the ball in play accordingly.

Oh I agree with you, it mostly just pissed me off the moment I play someone who clearly has bunt intentions when it's so obvious they're doing it because they can't hit. I actually think batters would prefer to not tip the opposing team off but maybe the ability to see everyone peeking is the game's way of counter-cheese? Sure as hell doesn't work for me...

I played someone who kept using Troy Tulowitzki as a sacrifice bunter in the cleanup spot. Seriously?!?

Just because the egos of major league stars won't allow them to sacrifice when it is good baseball doesn't mean you shouldn't. cough cough* ortiz...

If the guy I'm playing is spamming offspeed below the zone, I don't want to hit into a double play every time I get a runner on or have 1st and 2nd with 0 outs.

I don't count drag bunts and sacrifices as the same thing. If they want to give me an out with a sacrifice with a 90 ovl. hitter, good for them.

I agree, except thanks to the slow fielding and way too easy bunts, it often ends with advancing the runner and having the guy on first end up being safe

And often if the guy coming from 2nd is a dee gordon, he's getting home :-/ People have figured out that once that ball is in play, with a fast guy, he can round from 2nd to home and be safe because apparently it sometimes takes 5 minutes to throw to first and back home

Some of the animations that triggers are pretty silly, I agree. I haven't had it happen recently since I stopped putting bad fielders at 3B but sometimes the catcher has a weird one even with my 99 create a player.
