Re: Is it wrong to try not pitch in the zone .vs human players?

I got a message like that last night. I always aim in the zone, but never right down the middle. I live on the corners. Sometimes they miss the zone and he swings and misses. If he lays off and gets a couple balls, I aim a little deeper in the zone...like a real pitcher would. Any pitcher who always throws right down the middle will get rocked, real life or video game.

This one was particularly funny because he kept trying to get me to chase curveballs and sliders way out of the zone, and I wasn't biting. Yet he had the gall to complain about my method.

I pitch sim. Which to me is....work all your pitches, inside, outside, high, low, just mix up everything. Location, speed, even your pace.

I come in the zone too. When you set up your pitches properly you can pitch to contact. This is the essence of baseball.

Do I get lit up sometimes? Yeah...it's baseball. Sometimes when I think I can come more in the zone with a fastball or a slider....I end up thinking wrong or my pitcher just makes a mistake.

      It happens.

But guys who throw dirt balls or high out of the zone fastballs all day....I will draw walks.

What I don't like though are guys who just simply paint a high fastball all day on the meter. It's cheesy. And it's not reality. I have seen a few of those types....it's just not fun to play vs that BS.

Other than that....if they don't want to pitch to me..I will walk. I drew 4 walks on a guy in one inning....he got frustrated...threw a few down the pipe strikes and I raked them.....he quit.

So you can overcome moronic players who want to think they can fool you with out of the zone pitches all day.

Just keep playing your game, you're not doing anything wrong like most have already said.

There's a limit in some regard in terms of NEVER throwing a strike or just throwing one zone the whole game and nibbling that same spot, but generally speaking, you should be solid enough to take walks in those situations.

Re: Is it wrong to try not pitch in the zone .vs human players?

Took a break from doing pitch edits the other night to sneak in a game.

Dude has a lineup as stacked as mine and has Seaver on the mound. I get nervous since I had yet to face Seaver online and I know how great he is because I have him myself.

First pitch: low changeup in the dirt that I take for a ball. Next, a slider breaking way out of the zone for a ball. Then a fastball high and inside for a strike on the black. Another fastball in the same area, this time for a ball. Next pitch was a curveball low that I checked my swing on for the walk.

Rinse and repeat three times until he walks the bases loaded. Then came the pause and the message telling me that I suck and that I'm supposed to swing at all this junk, etc.

His timer ran down to like 3 seconds and then he quit.

So yeah. Go ahead and keep throwing dirt balls. I'll take it.

I try to pitch realistic, up and down out and in, changing speeds, hitting corners. Lately, I've gotten the Same messages. So I laugh. Sub in Chapman or Kelvin Herrera, and pound up in the zone until They rage quit. I keep those two in the bullpen just for that reason.
