I find hitting extremely difficult and so do most people I play, but every now and then someone comes along who makes it all look soo easy. Like they crush every pitch in the strike zone I am in awe. Is it just hand eye and reaction time because I don't even feel like I have time to react when I'm facing high 90s. I just had a guy hit 7 HRS off of 99 Chris Sale and I didn't even feel like I was pitching poorly, it just blew my mind I have trouble getting it out of the infield against good pitching

Zone hitting in the right hands will result in harder hit balls and ultimately more home runs. It's very tough to use IMO as there are many things in play that aren't with directional so I opt for the easier directional but am constantly frustrated with my choice.

With directional it's easier to have a good eye and time pitches better but you get infinitely more swings and misses even on good timing down the middle of the plate.

With zone however, if you're good enough anything in the zone is easily squared up and even pitches around the zone can still be crushed. It's just much harder to use because you first have to pickup what pitch it is, then if it's a ball or strike. All the while you have to move your PCI into the vicinity of the pitch and time it right. To generate home runs with it you have to hit it in the upper 1/3 of the PCI. Middle will generate liners and bottom third will generate sinking liners or grounders. Players that have high contact are infinitely easier to use as their PCI is massive making it 100x easier to make good contact.

Hope this helps you better understand what some opponents may be doing to generate more homers.

thanks for the reply, I do use zone hitting but it's not exactly easy especially when you're facing top notch pitching maybe it was a fluke game but this guy made it look like he was playing on Rookie mode.

I can't seem to find many good streams for this game does anyone have a recommendation for a good DD online streamer that uses zone hitting?

I also wonder how much of an advantage the players using monitors (vs. TV's with Game Mode) get. If you have a TV and ever tried playing without Game Mode, you might begin to understand what I mean. The input lag is incredible. I just wonder how much less input lag there is for the guys using monitors because even a split second faster is gigantic when talking about timing a high 90's fastball.

Switching from my big ole living room tv, to my (smaller) game room tv made a world of difference. It's still not even the best tv for gaming but it took me from veteran level directional hitter to an all star level zone hitter.

There are some guys out there who can flat out hit anything - even out of the strike zone! It's bizarre how different the experience is. As a pitcher it's usually too late to adjust. What usually works for one opponent can be thrown out if you play against one of these guys. I look at their tendencies and most of them have absolutely no patience (99 swing percentage) yet they are very successful.

One thing that is new this year that will help is increasing the hitting difficulty to Hall of Fame when you are promoted to CS division. But, the big question is if and when I'll be able to reach CS.

Changed the hitting from timing to zone just messing around with it during a conquest game. Went from a game of groundballs to straight shots out the park or in the gaps. I didn't know there was this much power in zone hitting. I have to get accustomed to it. But it's definitely something that everyone should look into.
