This isn't quite what you're saying, but I'm doing the 40IP with Breakout Phil Hughes. Or I would be if RNG would go in my favor. I got him all three times I needed to beat the Twins on Veteran to get this challenge, and I haven't gotten him since.

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
Thank you one more time.
I started my first vs. CPU game since, and it was Stieb.
My batters were in shape, took 7-0 lead quickly.
But, my man Stieb almost left his bones out there, pitched the entire 6th with 0 energy. It was a mess, he ended giving up one run on 4 hits and 4 BBs. But it is done.
Now onto unlocking new players...Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
Willie Stargell, I just can't seem to hit a double with him. I power swing and smoke balls but they're either homeruns, line outs, or base hits back up the middle.

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
Rookie Griffey is giving me grey hair. I'll lead the game off with a walk and a run, then either go 0-fer or hit bombs and hard singles directly to the outfielders. Last game I led the game off with a double and a run, then they grooved everything the rest of his at-bats. What makes that even worse is that I was playing the Rockies on All-Star and I drew TWELVE walks that game. *pulls hair out*
Glad to hear I'm not the only one having this problem though. Sure beats getting IBB'd 3 times in a game with All-Star Griffey.Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
Tip for anyone struggling to get doubles: play at red rocks stadium. I was struggling mightily with willie Stargell, I played one game at red rocks and knocked out both of the doubles I needed.

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
This rookie Konerko 3 hits in a game is gonna literally kill me before I finish it...I have 2 different times take games into the 19th inning on purpose to get him 9 AB and still can't buy that 3rd hit. The last 4 AB of my previous try, he hit 2 balls caught on the warning track and 2, I kid you not, balls where outfielders dove coming in or in the gap to catch them...ARGH

The CPU is toying with me, I know it

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
The rookie Tillman is the worst. I'm intentionally walking the first batter of most innings just so I don't have to go through that stupid windup. Got to 60 of the 100 Ks I need so far.Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
The 7 strikeouts by a rookie pitcher in an ranked seasons match is killing me. I have three rookie pitchers in my starting rotation and it took a good week of playing before i was given them to use and when i finally got them three games in a row and racked up the strikeouts needed my games got queued and the stats didn't count. It's so infuriating especially when every other game counts.Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
Currently it's Rookie Damon 100 hits mission. He's just so hot and cold. I either go 3 for 4 or have an 0fer. I'm currently at 41 hits I think. He's been in my lineup since day one. I can't wait for this mission to be done.
Before him it was the 10 assists with Rookie Xander. I eventually had to move him to 3rd because no one was hitting it to short unless it was a popup; and his bat was worthless.Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
I, like many others, am very poor at drawing walks. I keep swinging at junk when least appropriate.
So, all of a sudden, I get walking missions:
-12 walks with Reds players in conquest (Griffey Sr. epic mission)
- 10 walks (Chipper Jones rookie mission)
- 2 walks with Giambi (Team epic).
So, while writing this, my lineup of 8 Redd + Giambi is taking pitches on All-Star. Sure, I lose matches, usually 1-0, and the winning pitcher score is usually 9K, 2BB
Just a few more games
) I get at least one walk, sometimes 2 per match.
EDIT: As I was typing this, Padres pitcher Friedrich had a complete meltdown, walked 4 of my guys in a row, and I ended up winning 1-0 through no fault of my own.Last edited by yelch; 04-16-2017, 01:45 AM.Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
I'm in the same boat as the last two people. I need 1 more walk with Giambi & I only need 4 more hits with Boggs to complete it. I also only need 3 more hits with Loften to unlock Gold Mike of the Phillies even though I have Adrian Beltre.Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
I got lucky Sunday morning with the Griffey Jr. double, walk, and a run. First at bat hit a double into the gap and ended up scoring. Every at bat after that I just set the controller down. 3rd at bat the CPU walked him on 4 pitches.
Cant tell you how many times I started off the game with a double and a run and could not get a walk. The CPU will just groove you pitches like it knows you need the walk. 3 different times I went to 9 pitches faced before I either struck out or put the ball in play. It wouldnt even give me the 10 pitches faced trophy.Comment

Re: Player you hate using but is tied to a mission
THIS. Im hitting less than .200 w him. And he basically walks to first on a ground ball.
Same with Robin Yount. But at least he has some speed and has gotten some SBs for me.
I grew up when these guys were in their prime. I didnt realize that Rookie Yount and Vet Boggs were essentially useless at those respective times. LMAO.Comment
