Someone please explain this

Trying to put together a team for the event. 78 overall max. I was at 79/78 so needed to shave a point. I had Hanley Ramirez on my bench, 81 ovr, 86 adjusted. I swapped him for 73 overall rookie Adam Jones, and my overall went UP to 80. I switched him back for Ramirez and it went down to 79. Why?

Team overall is not directly determined by the overall of players that makeup your lineup. It's determined by the balance of various stats. So Adam Jones was probably better than Hanley in a category you were weak in.

Think of it like player attributes. Player overall is determined by the quality of the individual attributes. It works the same way with team overall.

How are people able to fill their lineups with all gold in this event ? Haven't played one person who's had anything below a high silver or gold in their batting lineups and 2-3 in their bullpen ? I can't fit more than 3 without going over the 78 ovr

They put all 55 ovr starters.

Just played one with a 55 starter but brought on gold relievers after one batter. Kinda sucks that play gets rewarded because it's only a three inning game.

Yup, that's how you draft. I'd like to see a smaller roster next year and a 1 inning minimum per SP

Instead of 1IP, it should be 3 batters faced. I've had games where an inning was 14 batters because Rookie Jack Morris decided that a fastball in the dirt means a fastball right down the middle

Ya, or minimum pitch count, but they do need to address this SP workaround

Reduce the size of the bullpen to 3. After the third inning, dump the starters into the pen for extra inning relief.
