    Re: Showdown Thread

I've only tried the first inning one twice and both times I failed on the first boss, and the second attempt I only beat a single mission and while I was able to tie the game against the boss I could not get the last run needed.

I still like the concept but the entry fee and the all or nothing nature turns me off. It will be interesting to see at the end of the Inning program how essential it is to complete this to reach 300 stars as a fully offline player.

It definitely pays a big chunk of the stars. I'm not sure what their plans are exactly but it looks like they're doing player programs with chunks of moments that are going to contribute 20 points if they follow Granderson. I'm at 174 without touching online yet and doing Conquest and Showdown plus Granderson. I don't remember how much longer this program has but if they did a player program once a week over the month its out that's 80 stars total.

I haven't touched Showdown since the last patch. I won't until I hear some better feedback. I don't want to play something that will frustrate me. I don't mind a good challenge if it's fair. just don't need any additional stress w/ the world coming apart.

Did they remove the pack from the first boss in the 1st inning showdown?

Yes, they changed it to a single silver card

I have lost my stubs (or a portion of them twice). I will probably try it a few more times but if Showdown becomes the prime point earning method in the inning programs for offline players and essentially become mandatory to hit 300 stars then I am probably going to give up.

It's bad enough that you can basically waste a bunch of time...but, to require stubs on top of it??? Seems like a double stuff....lol

                  Re: Showdown Thread

You make almost 50% of your stubs back in the first couple challenges. This mode is all about matchups. Learn who the boss battles are and draft accordingly.

                  Example NL Central:
Mini bosses are right handed. Take your early silver hitters with high power/contact for righties and high vision if you struggle with PCI.

Take a silver Reliever/Closer in the opening draft since one of the early missions before facing Castillo focuses on them. You can take a starter later after beating a couple moments but do so before completing the Castillo battle.

Start grabbing high lefty power/contact to prepare for Hader boss battle.

The hardest battle of the central is Flaherty and its all about patience. Take until you get a strike then only swing at pitches in the heart of the plate until you get 2 strikes. Should be able to get through this one.

Final boss battle take until you get two strikes until Hader is completely out of energy (about 60 pitches in). He is wild so if you go in hacking he will just drain your outs. Worst case if you didn't get a single hit after taking two strikes is you have 10-12 outs left and he is gassed and your PCI is at its max size and you can light him up. Most of the time I have had him walk in 1-2 runs on his own.

                  Good hitters
                  Diamonds best to worst
                  Edmonds
                  Yelich
                  Rizzo
                  Cain
                  Votto
                  Molina

                  Good hitters
Moran – good budget contact card
Newman – good budget contact card
                  Cain – good not great
                  Hiura – beast against righties
                  Braun – must grab silver
Smoke – massive power vs righties
                  Sogard
                  Goldschmidt – great vs either
Molina – decent but better to get schwarber and use him at catcher
                  Bryant – beast vs lefties
                  Rizzo – great vs righties
Schwarber – moster power has saved multiple showdown runs for me
Winker – beast bronze against righties - this is a must have card for first two mini bosses
Castellanos – one of the better hitters in the division
Suarez – massive power low contact
                  Votto – great vs righties
                  Moutstakas monster versus righties
Galvis – good bronze switch hitter

I love this mode but it's mainly because I'm a solid hitter.

If you struggle hitting on All-Star, this mode is going to be a nightmare. I have a buddy who just can't beat it and I feel for him.

Well there goes the mode for me.. No way I'm wasting my time to get a silver pack when they were giving out regular packs to begging with. That just shows how money hungry they are with DD. Not only that the difficulty is not even accurate either.

Took a third run at this and once again failed at the first boss. So I highly doubt (still) that I will be able to do these.

I think the NL East one is just too difficult. I did a couple runs in the AL Central to get Slamtana and I rarely had issue. the combination of silver power hitters and easier moments made it feel like only a challenge when I faced Michael Kopech. But with the NL East, There's a lot of completey forgettable options in the Silver and Gold Rounds. The JD Davis and Marcel Ozuna's of the world that'll fill up your rounds. Combine that with the plethora of quality pitching options, and you'll often see Diamond rounds that have 3 starting pitchers and FoTF Ozzie Albies, or gold rounds that have Nola/Syndergaard/Lugo/Doolittle, when you really needed a LS Juan Soto or a FotF Juan Soto to beef up your lineup. It doesn't help that the NL East has the absolute hardest sub boss of all the divisions in Scherzer, who may actually be the best LS pitcher in the whole game. I think I'm going to move on to other divisions then come back to the East Later. I hear great things about the AL West, with some real players available

Beating showdowns is very mentally challenging.

My strategy is to play up until the 2nd boss then get to the end. A perfect run puts you at 9 runs. I'd say I normally get 7-8 runs. The AL West is the one I've had the most success at. I just hit Verlander well. I will have 4/5 complete with one more showdown. Correa is the one I'm going for now and I'm not going to bother with Seager.

It's super tough but I try to and make sure ball is middle/up in the zone before I go after it. Obviously if I get two strikes I'll expand. But that's my strategy and it works. You gotta be super disciplined though which is why most people fail. They'll chase balls just on the edge of the zone and give away AB's which will kill you in this mode.

Just finished up the NL Central last night. Got to 70 on all 5 teams. Getting use to the power change in the patch I was worried when i first started playing but after a couple games I got back in a groove. Highly recommend maxing out the Affinity if you can to get the 6 affinity packs at 70. I have pulled three diamonds from the affinity packs.
