I've still yet to complete a Showdown. I play better and seem to be on the brink the last few tries.

However, my latest was an epic fail that I couldn't pull off if I was trying. 2nd showdown vs Bieber, 13 outs, down 3-6. I usually have no problem with this one. I didn't even have a base-runner until after the 10th out. I got a weak oppo single and that guy was stranded at 1st. No strikeouts, no DPs (because no base-runners!). I hit the ball with every batter, they just always landed in somebody's glove.

Wait I thought with the Bieber one you only needed one run to win.

I'd like to see an NL West video, that's one I've really struggled with and yet to complete it.

Thanks for posting this. I checked out his other video on the NL Central Showdown and have just been beating that over & over. Got Bell and Rizzo and almost have Votto.

I like Showdown a lot and use it as my main mode to TA FOTF players that I covet. However, the 2nd inning Showdown almost broke me...

To add some context, up to where this story begins I had two disconnects during boss showdowns that ended my run - 1 of which was at the final boss needing 4 runs with 18 outs! I was pretty frustrated and even reached out to SDS support (they actually responded!)

After that experience, I sat down to complete it and check it off my list and made a serious effort to win as many moments as possible. I was locked in, but a couple of moments didn't go my way. I ended up with 12 run against David Price for the final showdown. I was calm and poised heading into the contest.

I scored my first run 2 batters into the game and with 18 outs remaining is was 15-14 with Freddie Freeman stepping up with a runner on 1st. He hits a perfect/perfect flyball to LF where Bellinger catches it over his head with his back against the fence (why is Belli in LF?) I thought for sure it was a HR after I hit it, but my runner at first stopped short of 2nd, so I knew it was going to be caught (this isn't a complaint post, btw. I understand why it didn't go out...). I was impatient and swung at the very next pitch (low CB) and grounded into a 4-6-3 DP.

I'm not nervous, but I'm getting a little anxious, and have 15 out to work with. Price sets down the next 10 (TEN!) batters (12 including my almost HR with Freddie) on absolute bullets right at people (again, this is not a complaint thread). Of those 10 after the DP, I hit 5 line drive P/P - 3 to 3B, 1 to CF, and 1 to RF.

Now it's 6 outs remaining and I'm heated, but maintain my patience at the plate because I'm hitting the ball hard. I'm laying off tough breaking pitches - I'm still locked in even though I'm not getting the results I want.

I draw a walk - FINALLY - and pinch run and successfully steal with Brian Roberts (99 speed, 86 stealing). I generally don't steal in showdown, but with his combo it was a no brainer. I get him to 3rd on a fly ball in the gap that produces a lazy animation where I can take advantage and Roberts is in standing up.

5 outs to go. INF is in and I'm digging my chances even though I don't have the winning run on base, but I have RH bats coming up (Schoop, Hanley, Torres in some order). Next batter pops up in foul territory - 4 outs to go. I think next batter is Schoop and I single up the middle to tie the game and pinch run with Jackie. I figure with his speed I can bunt him over easily, but I don't have any good bunters on my team (I think the max on my bench was 42-45). I lay down a decent, but not great bunt, and Muncy just nips Jackie at 2nd and they turn the double play!!! 2 outs to go. My next two batter produce lazy fly balls to CF and the game is OVER. I needed 4 runs in 20 outs and only managed to score 3.

The story doesn't end there...

Obviously I was mad, but I'm almost 40 (I'm a MAN!) and needed to spend some time with my family, so I composed myself and walk away from the gaming console. After they went to bed I went right back to 2nd inning showdown - I couldn't sleep after losing that way earlier.

Make it easily to the final showdown again, although I only scored 6 runs through my efforts, but I was confident I wouldn't face Price again so I prepared for Feller or Giles, which mean more LH bats than RH. Nope. It's Price again...

At this point I'm not confident that I'll get through it, but I might as well try. Without going into any detail (mostly because my ABs were so futile that I don't remember anything specific), I scored 1 run in the first 12 outs - things are not going so well and I'm ready to give up and try again the next day. I'm tired and not really seeing the ball that well anymore so my ABs are sloppy - check swinging on pitches in the opposite batters box; things like that.

But, out of nowhere I manage a double and that wakes me up - I have hope. Over the next 7 outs I score 8 runs and come into my last out with the winning run on 3rd and Hanley at the dish. I'm seeing the ball pretty well, but I'm also shocked that I mounted this comeback and my senses are heightened, which means I'm early on everything.

1st pitch meatball FB and I'm way out in front of it and yank it foul. Price throws 2 balls way outside outside - 2-1. The 4th pitch is low and inside on the corner (no way I'm swinging) for strike 2. Price wastes the 5th pitch very high, so even though I'm looking up in the zone, I don't offer.

Now I'm in every kids dream - it's essentially bottom of the 9th in game 7 of the WS with a 3-2 count. I had to pause the game - I don't want to overthink, so I tell myself to anticipate FB out of his hand and adjust. Price throws an 84 mph cutter right down the middle just above center - again, my senses are heightened and even though I put a good swing on it (not perfect/perfect) I know I got under it but I see it heading toward CF and I'm reading Pollock's beat on the ball and he sprints to the base of the center field wall and just WAITS. I hop off the couch and I can't tell if he's going to casually catch the ball or try to rob a wall scrapper. He starts going into the jump animation and I'm excited at the prospect of finally winning, but also thinking that a HR robbery will be worse that casually catching it at the wall. He jumps and the ball goes just above his glove for a showdown winning 403' HR from Han-Ram to dead center.

Like I said, I love showdown, but this one almost broke me...

Wait I thought with the Bieber one you only needed one run to win.

Apparently, that's not always the case. I think I've tried the 2nd Inning Showdown 3-4 times now. I only had the 0-0 start with Bieber once.

I’m honestly surprised he didn’t rob the HR as the CPU defense is unworldly in Showdown.

Just an FYI on any Showdown you can tell who the final boss is based on the team logo at the bottom left as soon as the draft is over.

Just an FYI on any Showdown you can tell who the final boss is based on the team logo at the bottom left as soon as the draft is over.

2nd inning showdown.
I had 2 perks stacked that increase the chance for the CPU to commit an error with runners on base. These guys still playing like diamond defenders. smh.

I've had good success with the Rattled perk on the whole, but I usually take it out by the final showdown.

Yeah? Well that’s good. I only take it if it’s the only non pitching option I have. Otherwise I always choose a hitting one.

I’ve only ever seen a bronze and silver Rattled perk. Is there a gold or diamond option?

It's an enormous factor in pitching in this game. Try to get the CPU confidence down as much as possible. This paired with lower energy = more hittable pitches and you'll notice they find more holes.

If you play online you'll know that once your confidence takes a hit the pitcher is worthless. Everything will fall. On the flip side, if you're facing a guy and he gets off to a hot start and that confidence goes high then you might as well call it a day because even if you hit the ball well it's likely an out.

Another Showdown match-up against him, another defeat. I can never get anything going against that guy. If I ever get him again in the 2nd Showdown, I'm skipping him no matter my team and perk situation.

Exactly what I keep running into in the NL west Showdown against Walker Beulher. I just cannot be patient against him. Guy throws 100 and then just snaps that nasty curve off and I flail away at it. Reached the final against him down 15-9. I managed 3 runs in 20 outs. I had the winning run up with 1 out left and I hit a low line drive to left that the left fielder makes a spectacular diving catch on to end it.
