Exchanging rivals in affinity loses the card?

I guess that what ‘exchange’ properly means - but I thought it would just be like if u have a card, exchange it, and it’s more like a checkmark - done!

But I exchanged my gold Tom Seaver card in the NYY affinity and he disappeared from my collection...

I also had the RP Vida Blue card... and then I went to put him back in my bullpen one day and he was not in my collection... gone! I went back on the marketplace to buy them - I dig those cards...

Sorry if this old news... but it’s new news to me

When it says exchange, you lose the card. If you collect it, you keep it, but then can't exchange, sell, or quicksell.
