MLB The Show 20: Team Affinity Stage 2 on Friday, Mixed Reviews From Community So Far

It's hard to argue against the Team Affinity concept being a big win this year, especially...

Big fan of the "flashback prospects" idea you mentioned, that would have been cool. (cries at the thought of a 5 tool 95 overall Tim Beckham Rays card)

You stealing my idea that I posted the other day but the busted prospects? I think I called them the "what could have been" guys. Super catchy huh?

Some stupidly overrated low diamond Jeff Francouer would be fun. Some Mike Olt would probably just be a right handed Joey Gallo. Gimme some Todd Van Poppel and some Lastings Milledge. They could have fun with cards like that but not make them crazy overrated.

Mark Appel...feels fitting for where the game is at right now.

        Canseco perfect for the outfield

Haha I missed that but I approve, and will give you full credit for the idea still.

I wonder if it's easier or harder to get guys like Lastings or dudes just out of the league. The Beckhams and Dom Browns came to mind first simply because they're still on the roster, but yeah I think the "missed" guys could have fit in nicely with other highly touted yesteryear players.

I more thought of it at first for eras of teams like that Hosmer/Alex Gordon crew coming on with the Royals etc.

I was just messing with you man, no need for any credit, Im sure a ton of us have had similar thoughts.

I was trying to figure that out too. My first thought would be that it would be easier/cheaper to get guys like that, but I guess some might not like what they are representing and not wanna do it. Probably varies person by person I guess.

Yeah I was thinking it might be a touchy subject on some level for SDS to do it. Like they'd have to frame it a certain way where it's not making light of "busts" by putting out a 92 overall Lastings Milledge etc.

Just call it Future Stars of Past or something and sell it to them as showcasing them since they were elite prospects. No need to go into "bust" territory you can actually keep it positive and have it fit the theme

Sounds like an xmen movie. But yeah something simple like that works, other thing I had was prospects of yesteryear or something dumb like that. Just anything that frames them in a positive light.

What a terrible idea to flood the market with these guys and make the real stars irrelevant. This is really disappointing

While I am not a fan of the cards I don't think you can say that they flooded the market as they will be "No Sell" and only the hardcore players and those really good at showdowns do a lot of them. I only have gotten one Face Of The Franchise so far.

For what it is worth 4 out of my 8 starting position players are live series cards.

True that the TA stuff won't be sellable and won't flood the market. But the Bohm and Madrigal cards are on the market and instead of giving us legends or better flashback cards, they dropped "new" versions of cards that are already in the game and feature kids that haven't even played in MLB yet. Add in the fake stats making these cards comparable to MIKE TROUT and it just looks bad all around.

The reaction could be even worse, too. Depending on how they handle the Stage 2 missions and stuff this could be rejected even more. If it's exactly the same, people will be upset they have to grind the same **** all over. If they take away exchanges or if the newer Showdowns feel harder because they messed with sliders (which they progressively did last year) then it's REALLY going to tank.

Having 99 max overalls with certain attributes going up to 125 is the problem, I think. They lowered the threshold for diamonds and then started crowding most of the rewards in the high diamond tier. There's a couple options imo.

                            1. Stop handicapping active players' ratings in in DD. Let them have their normal overall on their card.

                            2. Allow for overalls over 99. Change and add new tier(s) so it makes sense. Something like 60-69 bronze, 70-79 silver, 80-89 gold, 90-99 diamond, 100+ red diamond.

So far the cards that they have revealed do not appear to have the attributes that line up with their overall ratings.

What is problematic is the number of SP they are injecting with sinkers as their primary. We already know its a huge issue when combined with the new pitch speeds why choose to exacerbate the issue.
