    Kevin,

Great article and topic.  I tend to lean on the fact that they have become much more complicated.  I am a Dad with a job and a family but enjoy these modes and have really loved Diamond Dynasty this year.  I can't speak for other modes in other games, but to be honest, it has become a bit overwhelming,  I have loved to buy/sell aspect and growing the stubs but there is just so much to do!  They are great games, don't get me wrong, but for someone in my position it is hard to dedicate a lot of time to the modes.  From there a sense of frustration sets in and the game at times goes from something that I enjoy to one that I get frustrated with.

Wonderful article. I loved the early 00s Maddens with the goofy cards and trying to collect each player. Now it's become too overwhelming. I would love to sink time into MUT but there's too many modes, too many cards. I'd much rather spend that time in Franchise. Same for The Show. Too time-consuming for what it's worth nowadays.

At this point my only real complaints with DD as a card collector mode (separate from questions about online vs offline content) is that there are too many cards of the same guys and you often don't have a reason to use cards you get unless they're making a god squad. If they incorporated same year same team flashbacks into PXP (grind to a parallel level for an extra boost and Topps Now/Monthly/ASG/Postseason art) and did more card-based missions it would be perfect.

The point where I burn out with it every year is the point at which I'm grinding out programs for cards that just sit in my inventory.

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to have both PXP and a content design where a 99 version of an active player comes out a month after a 98 version or where a guy who had a decent year for a bad team gets a 99 because their best player got a 97 or 98 earlier.

I sunk quite a bit of time into MUT last year; it was the first time ever that I tried any mode of the kind.  After a month or so I really didn't know what it was all for.  The more you got the more there was still to get, so yeah it became a little overwhelming.  It did trigger my addictive and compulsive nature  but eventually I didn't see the need anymore.

I can say I gave it try but I still think it's a waste of resources, but that's just my opinion.

too complicated but i do enjoy playing card collecting modes from time to time.....diamond dynasty is enjoyable to the point where you can grind but not have to necessarily spend money. madden is not enjoyable at all....too much of a grind and just not as much fun. 2k is pretty good and i enjoyed that one too. imo they should let you earn stubs (or in game currency) every time you play. you should be rewarded for playing and some of us just don't have time for the grind.
