Fielder And Baserunner Speed In DD

Am I the only one that thinks fielder speed is way too fast and baserunner speed is way too slow in DD? It's basically impossible to split the gap in a DD game or get it over an outfielder's head. It shouldn't be that hard to get a well hit ball (100 plus MPH exit velo) over an outfielder's head but it's all but impossible. On the flip side, getting an infield hit is pretty much out of the question. Heck, even scoring from 2nd on a single is quite a challenge. A guy with 80 speed should score easily from 2nd but it's always a bang bang play cause everything throw is right on the money. Tagging up to move up a base? Fuhgeddaboudit!!

There's a reason why most of the sliders you'll find in that subforum greatly reduced fielder speed. It's not as bad as last year by default, but fielders still cover way too much ground.

Baserunners are also entirely too fast.

Baserunners too fast? In my experience baserunners are too slow, at least my guys. The CPU baserunners seem a whole lot faster than mine. I've got a guy with 80 speed and he got thrown out trying to steal second by 10 feet. It was ridiculous. Another guy with 80 or so speed was only safe on a stolen base attempt cause of a high throw. Tagging up is all but impossible cause every throw is pin point right on the money.

I don't play DD, but I spent a few hours testing various runners from home to first using a stopwatch and baserunner speed at 3 is the closest to real life according to MLB speed averages.

Byron Buxton (98 speed) can go from HP to 1B in around 3.7 seconds in the game default. Luis Arraez (46 speed) gets down in 4.1 seconds in game. Irl, Buxton (who had the best HP to 1B time in baseball last year) made it in 4.0. Arraez, who has average speed (but is a lefty, so that helps him), averaged 4.42. With Baserunner Speed at 0, they're right about where they should be (I had Buxton at 3.95 and Arraez at 4.33.

Guys run like players with 30 higher speed should be running. Someone with speed in the mid 60s runs as fast or faster than the fastest players in baseball. Guys with 45 speed run with times about that which players in the mid 70s run in real life. And high 90s guys are running 90ft, no exaggeration, about as fast as Usain Bolt's first 30m.

I don't think they've found a good balance with speed.

I think fast base runners should feel fast. I think they've got that down. But blazing speed doesn't seem to translate to fielding, at least not in my experience.

Regardless of speed, if a player has poor reaction time, MAN is it evident! I've been going back and forth with Yount and Brantley in LF, Yount is at least 15 points faster, but Brantley makes more plays.

The parks with cavernous outfields, I think fast players should feel faster. I've seen Buxton on his horse a few times, and it wasn't very impressive. Although I could be terminally jaded, having watched so much of Junior in centerfield in his prime. There was a nightly OMG moment, it seemed like.

Have to say though, I'm thrilled with the improvements they've made on D this year, though. Marked, noticeable improvements.

I think reaction should be the driving force. Andruw Jones is easily the best defensive outfielder I've ever seen. Dude's range was unmatched. But he wasn't the fastest guy out there. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't slow. But there's a reason his cards normally have 70-80 speed. I think a guy like Jones, with 99 reaction and 80ish speed, should have much better range than guys like Trout or Acuña, who have 90 spd and 70-80 reaction.

It's something baseball games struggled with for a long time. Speed was all that mattered in the OF. The Show isn't perfect, but I think the way it handles how ratings impact OF defense is far better than any other baseball game I can remember playing.
