Defense “badges” not reflecting player cards

I’ve noticed recently that the on-field icon representing a player’s defensive skill is different from (and less than) their card suggests. For example, Barry Larkin and Okazaki Honus Wagner both appear as gold defenders in-game, despite being diamond defenders. I am playing both players at their positions.

Any idea why this is happening? And, if these is just a graphic glitch or are these diamond players also being skill-downgraded in-game?

On-field graphic is reflective of the fielding rating.

In-menu reflects some sort of aggregate which includes fielding, arm str/acc, and reaction.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Which is just another example in the long list of in-game stuff that makes no sense that SDS has never clarified.

90+ Fielding gives you a diamond shield. Does that give access to specific animations that only 90+ get? What's the threshold for certain animation packages that ultimately discern poor fielders from elite?

Do players with the diamond shield on the attribute card that DO NOT have 90 Fielding also have access to special animations? Does the combination of different attributes ultimately lead to said animations with the diamond or is simply for show?

Until they make Fielding truly matter I guess it's irrelevant. But to me, this is one of the most obvious areas where they could tune gameplay and actually get a true result from it.

We've all seen the Frank Thomas and Pete Alonso ilk make spectacular diving plays regularly despite poor Fielding. If they simply cleaned that up and put real effort into separating Fielding into true tiers based off rating then the game would play much differently.
