What should I do with my packs with the Season change and other things to expect?

I got the game on sale 2 weeks ago and have 300+ packs I haven't opened. I don't think I care much about a lot of cards (thouhg I don't fully understand collections yet).

I just want to work up enough stubs for Mickey Mantle b/c that's my favorite player all time and don't really care about anyone else. I got the WBC set which I was happy about and the Retro Finest!

What happens to my packs when the season changes? Like if I open them now I will get S5 players? But if I open them next week or month I will get S6 players? Do I just want to wait then?

But I heard about something called an exchange? Saw some streamer who was opening all their packs to exchange his duplicates for S6 players? What the heck is that?

    Thanks for any illumination.

I wouldn't bother waiting to open your packs. Most of the regular packs (The Show and Ballin) have such a small chance of getting any of the rare cards from a given set that it really doesn't matter when you open them. If you want to perhaps increase your chance from 0.00001% chance of getting a Set 5 rare card to a 0.00001% chance of getting a Set 6 rare card, you could wait to open them. The packs that are set-specific don't change, like the Diamond Duo packs or the series-specific packs (Draft Picks, All Star Game, etc.), so those are locked into whatever past set they were released with.

If you are just targeting a single card, you're probably best served by selling almost every card you get. Use the mobile app, it is far better than relying on the in-game interface to sell (aside from Quick Sell, that's easy wherever, but only recommended for the worthless/common cards - use the app for cards that are actually diamonds to maximize your sales!) and most importantly for your Mantle goal, to buy cards at the best possible price.

I don't know about season-specific exchanges, but there is a "exchange common for bronze cards", "exchange bronze for silver cards" kind of mechanism, but those are just going to give you generic live series cards that are unlikely to be worth much to you. Also, the exchange rates are pretty rough, you put in more than you get out of them, so I only bother with this for my doubles/extra cards. Several programs also have exchanges as well, but that's only if you care about making progress in those specific programs.

As for the collections, personally, I would suggest that you just rip everything open and sell nothing to start with. Once you're done, go look at the collections in-game and see what you have. You're going to really want to commit to either being a collector, or being a Mantle-seeking laser-guided player before deciding what to do next.

EDIT - Adding on my favorite resource for checking cards by series, release date, etc. - https://www.showdd.io/

thanks so I saw the exchanges really aren't anything I am interested in. I was just saving packs to have fun opening a lot all at once and see how many I got during Season 5. Not targeting any card pulls I am hoping on.

Just still trying to get over never being able to afford a real life Mantle card.
