    land mark game?

I have to say, this has to be the best sports title to debut on a console in the history of gaming. You could debate what is the best sports game in history, but for a first time effort on a new platform (PS3) I think it's undebateable. I can't remember a first time effort that was as solid as this game.

Heck, EA's sports titles on the next gen systems were so watered and stripped down and in alot of ways took a bunch of steps backwards. This game gives you all the options of the current gen release with updated graphics, tigher gameplay, more animations, and an online suite that rivals any sports game to date.

I'm still waiting for the option to play a two player season mode online with a buddy but all in all kudos to the developers on this game.

I know baseball games typically aren't system sellers, but is it possible this game begins to build some momentum for PS3?

I agree! The atmosphere and "feel" of this game is by far the best I have ever seen. I do not understand why the reviews are average or below average for this game. Anyone who liked The Show on PS2, will LOVE it on the PS3. The graphics are of good quality and preserves a fast frame rate. MLB 2k7 has excellent graphics and textures but the game does not run as fluid. Bottom line, any baseball fan should not pass this up! I believe this justifys a purchase of a PS3.

Best baseball game of all time - hands down.

And yes, I did just make that claim.

Yeah, that's why I asked. It wasn't THE reason, but it was a big reason why I jumped into the PS3 pool.

I just wonder how many sports gamers, who are ready to take the Next Gen plunge for NCAA/Madden, decide to go PS3 because of this game. I don't expect it to be a system seller, but maybe it gives the PS3 a little nudge.

I agree that this is a landmark title, though I would second the opinion that the first Madden on PS2 was quite an acheivement. This game is AMAZING, from the visual richness of the stadiums to the sweet crack of the bat on the ball (I was hooked as soon as I heard that sound in the game the first time). I bought the PS3 mostly for this game, and man am I glad I did.

well, the second most important games to me are baseball after football so I definitely bought the ps3 waiting for this game. I can finally wipe the dust off of my ps3 and start playing again.

Give this man a prize! IMO - the list should start with:
                          1) NFL gameday on the PS2
                          2) NFL2K on the Dreamcast

                            Re: land mark game?

To me this game does well because the developers seemed to stay within themselves and not jump into the capabilities of the new console too quickly. Meaning it's an upgrade from last gen but not pushing the envelope for the PS3.

For one I'm glad to finally see someone breaking the recent trend of EA's 'We'll claim that we are 'starting from scratch'...take everything out of the next gen version and then make you pay for us putting it all back in over the next four years because we are completely out of ideas' technique.

Great call, Glenn33, on the dreamcast NFL 2K. I was just missing that game the other day--it was so fresh compared to Madden, and lots of fun to play.
