Re: MLB '08: The Show Review
Normally I would let that one go, because we all make mistakes when posting online.
I just couldn't let the irony go by though...speaking of comprehending something, when your comprehension of grammar is lacking right there.
Maybe you should just take your condescending attitude and turn it down a notch.
I think we all understand what you are saying. You just cannot seem to grasp that most people don't agree with you. It makes you angry and anger can fester, get ugly and turn you into something unappealing...perhaps even cause you to reside under a bridge.....are you COMPREHENDING what I'm saying?..
Let it go....

For the record, I only quoted one small portion of your post because it's the one portion I wanted to comment on. Please don't think I am ignoring the rest or didn't read it.It's only a video game.Comment

Re: MLB '08: The Show Review
Try telling the guys on Halo or COD 4 that Online is not that big...Try telling the droves of Madden players that Online is not that big...Try selling your online aint that big nonsense to those playing NBA2k8 or NCAA Football and all of the other leagues that function based on online play. Do a search on LeagueDaddy or the 2K forums for all the leagues...Online aint that big though...You have no clue..Is it huge..No..But to say its not as important as Franchise mode or any other mode would be ONLY an opinion and not a fact.
Would online even be a component for sports games if it was not viewed by producers as relevant?...The problem is most of you can't see gaming beyond your own little compartmentalized Franchise World which IMO is a rather selfish way to view gaming. Sooner or later..and it will happen, the time will come when something that you care about most will be affected..Then some meathead will make the assanine comment that he/she does not care and its not that important...Lets see how you deal with that. Thats why I'd never make such a comment because it clearly shows a lack of understanding regarding how people working together can be more influential than the same people only worrying about whats best for them.
hell...with the over 100 people on my friends list..Not a one gives a rip about franchise...In fact I think its kinda boring to play a game and only play with the CPU and tinker and tamper with sliders..I also think that the number Franchise players are probably on par with those who play h2h either online, in person or play in leagues...But then again I try to have a wider view of things and not think just because a few dudes on a forum agree or not agree that those opinions are the end all be all...
Finally did it even occur to you that ONLINE PLAY has its own forum for every major sports game here at OS???...meanwhile I've yet to see a specific franchise forum or maybe I'm just overlooking it...Now I'm n ot saying Franchise isn't important..Because it is and I respect those who enjoy it...But you'd have to be a fool and foolish to even think that ONLINE Play is not a MAJOR player for THE SHOW and any other sports game.
BTW...Palyed some dude from Florida today...I'm in Seattle and the connection was butter Smooth..GO figureLast edited by Oldschool17; 03-16-2008, 03:00 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '08: The Show Review
Halo 3 and COD4 is not The Show. That's what I'm trying to get across to you. I'm not trying to downplay the popularity of online gaming in general, only saying that it's not the focal point of a SPORTS SIMULATION.It's only a video game.Comment

Re: MLB '08: The Show Review
I disagree. Sports simulations, simulate sports. Sports are the definition of COMPETITION. Baseball is played by real men, competing directly against each other, like all sports. Sports simulations, at least to me, were meant to be played competitively. Even in the early gaming days, sports titles ONLY had 1 player vs. CPU in an "exhibition" style single game, or you could play 2 players head to head. Season and franchise modes didnt appear until later console cycles.
Online play is in fact huge. There are entire communities and fan sites based solely on online leagues, tournaments, etc. Online play is BUILT INTO these newer consoles, and it is a major selling point now, not some niche feature or add on. It all boils down to your own opinion and how you like to play the game. I personally need the head to head competitive feeling of playing another human. No CPU could ever generate the same intelligence or decision making a human being does. Thats what makes these sports sims exciting to me, playing head to head. Just because i never play against the CPU though, doesn't mean i dont want the other modes, ala season or franchise to work properly though.
The one thing we all have in common no matter how we enjoy the game is that we are all fans and consumers of the game, we all paid 65 bucks to enjoy it. Every mode should work properly, and the fact of the matter is that this game is severly plagued by lag issues.Comment

It looks as if comprehension is a DISTANT relative of YOURS..... because nobody knows what YOU'RE(as in YOU ARE) talking about.

Lots of inappropriate posts with guys saying one liners or mindless jibberish...Any specific area to post?...I was thinking TECHNICAL SUPPORT.
Also is there some way you or anyone can explain how the Online network works for the game?..Is it peer to peer, server based etc???Last edited by Oldschool17; 03-16-2008, 06:31 PM.Comment

So instead of turning this into a tit for tat discussion just accept the fact that each portion of all games should receive the same attention and when a part of the game is subpar it affects every consumer who bought the game...Eventually.Last edited by Oldschool17; 03-16-2008, 06:26 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '08: The Show Review
Maybe we just got off on the wrong foot.
Let's just put it to rest and go from here.
I'm serious about realizing that online is a huge part of gaming in general...and I was also serious that it might become a bigger part of the Show in the future if they continue to add features that can be used online(and they have this year if I read the previews correctly)

I never meant or wanted to be right but facts are just that...FACTS...Please get off your lil "We" kick and speak for yourself. I don't need to be right..I just need the guys at Sony to know that ONLINE is a very viable part of this game...I'm sure Chris would agree with that as well..Just like I'm sure he would agree that Franchise is equally important.

Re: MLB '08: The Show Review
Then maybe you need to call for a change in the way ALL games are reviewed. Because under the current scheme, a 6.5 is a terrible score. Why on earth should this game receive such an awful score when the online portion is the only mode that doesn't work the way it should? If there was a change in the way a 6.5 score is viewed by the consumer, and games much worse than The Show also received scores much worse than 6.5, then I could make some sense out of your suggestion that this game should receive such a low score. But until then, a 6.5 is ridiculous. I've seen games that are absolutey horrid from top to bottom receive scores higher than 6.5. That's why I find your opinion so utterly asinine.
IMO...a 6.5 is not that bad..It is using todays current form of scoring games but if reviews were far more detailed, specific and comprehensive a 5.5 to 7.5 would be an average score for a good decent playing game...8.0 and above would be the elite status games and below 5...straight garbage (cough MLB 2k8)
Is The Show an elite game?...most likely it is...many areas of the game set it apart from all next gen sports games we've seen but IMO to get to the Elite status you have to cross the T's and DOT the I's in every major aspect of the game. key areas of any sports game are...and in no specific order:
1. Gameplay
2. Graphics/Visuals
3. Presentation
4. Features
5. Online
6. Franchise
Now if you break each area down in its own component and score it...what is each area worth? and is one area more important than the other???Last edited by Oldschool17; 03-16-2008, 06:56 PM.Comment

You got your way now. Just don't clutter up the rest of the review thread with page after page after page of online talk. Sort of hijacking the thread. But, it's a free country. Just remember your own words....mindless jibberishLast edited by jim416; 03-16-2008, 07:12 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '08: The Show Review
Regardless, this entire discussion is an example of why a 'final overall rating' for these games serves no purpose whatsoever. Games should be rated by individual catagory only: Graphics 9, Franchise 8.5, Online 5, etc.Comment
