I'm enjoying the Show alot this year and plan on playing every single game. I don't have the problem the OP has-Some teams you will destroy, others destroy me-I've had great pitcher duels/close games/blowouts and games where 2 or 3 players on either team went yard. I'm pretty satisfied and this game will hold me over until the next Show drops.

Re: The ai is unrealistically good
I had problems last year holding leads. I attributed it to two things:
1. If your RP comes in and gives up a hit, watch his Confidence take a tumble. This can have a significant effect on his ability to throw to spots, and to throw effective pitches. At times, you can get boxed into having to throw only the pitches he is feeling most confident in, until you can get some outs.
2. I noticed problems with Bob Howry in particular. Then I checked and saw that his Control was much better than most other pitchers. He can put the ball where I tell him to. Usually, during the game, I had gotten a little sloppy with the left stick placement. By the time my starter came out, I was barely moving the left stick because any movement caused the starter to throw a ball, due to poor control and fatigue. Then I would bring in Howry, and (continuing as before) not move the left stick enough. Well, Howry had good control, and so the pitches would end up near the middle of the plate and get hammered. In summary, pay attention to what's going on ... careful attention.[Insert clever, personally-relevant, or cutting-edge remark, data, link, or picture]Comment

Re: The ai is unrealistically good
But as far as the AI goes, I have only had 1 blown save in my first 20 games or so, and it was my own fault because I tried to sneak a low fastball by Adam Dunn.Comment

Re: The ai is unrealistically good
I also think certain situations are scripted. In the eighth inning it was tied 6-6. The a.i. hit a grounder to the ss and of course it bounces off his glove runner safe. Next batter hits a grounder to the ss. Easy dp right? The ss picks up the ball and promptly drops it and then I can't get him to throw it to second base. You call that realistic? Needless I quit the game.Comment

Re: The ai is unrealistically good
Last night was the first time in my 'chise (over 30 games) where my bullpen absolutely blew up. Scott Proctor came in with a 3-0 lead over the Mets and they put a 4-spot on him. In the bottom half of the inning I am up at the plate - James Loney singles, Andruw Jones triples and Russell Martin singles. Jon Broxton came in for a 1, 2, 3 8th and Saito closed out the 9th.
My bullpen blew the lead, but, I came back to win - should I cry fould on myself Thadeus? You hit some rough spots...so what? Maybe your guys are tired, maybe you just aren't very good, maybe you quit too easily, etc. I don't know, but, you are the only person thus far to complain about a "comeback" code. I have yet to see it and doubt I ever will.

Re: The ai is unrealistically good
I've lost some hard one's. Mostly to my roommates but you don't give up bro. My last season I lost the penn after leading series 3-1 against the Mets. I play w/ dodgers. Started the series on fire and the ran smack dab face first into a wall. made some stupid mistakes and next thing I know it's a 3 all series and I'm down in 9th 6-2. What're you gonna do? I'll tell ya what. go in the bathroom. turn on the shower and cry your heart out. then get back in there and go for it again the next season. That's What.

Re: The ai is unrealistically good
The game has no comeback code - that would just be obvious after X games played. It would also prevent proper longterm results (ex. score variety). Longterm results are already hard enough to do well with every user being of different skills/style of play, so we're not about to add another layer of issues on top of that.
Comeback code can only give you artificial short-term excitement until you realize what's happening. Put another way, out of 100 real games it's trying to force you to play only the 50 most "exciting" ones - with the assumpiton that you're not interested in the other 50 or even the potential of branching into them. You'd never know this difference if you only played a few games, but we focus on longterm replayability.
Streaks are primarily statistical, but some natural ones are unavoidable. For example, I simply hit better on some days than others - sleep and vision are the biggest determination of that. I also tend to get better as I practice, and worse as I take long breaks. In-game players have performance streaks but the key ones are visible to the user and are minor compared to fundamentals.
You can say the game is too easy, or too hard, too little offense, or too much offense - but it has no comeback code.

LMAO..Did you see Julio Lugo play the Jays..He could have been credited with 4 errors I think they only gave him 3. A throwing error, bobble drop and a couple off the glove sad stuff..
Edit..Lowell also botched an easy grab, he had 0 errors last year.Last edited by Darkleaf; 04-09-2008, 05:57 PM.Comment
