Multi-Branch Fielding is not new this year. It was on the 07 and 08 features list also.

I think they are tweaking it alot for 09 however.

For example you will now be able to make a force out at second base for the final out of the inning This is what Chris from Sony says anyway.

I hope that they have also fixed some of the other fielding issue.

          Some examples

Too manny high throws to first base.

Not being able to field a hard hit ground ball to an outfielder "rightfielder" and quickly pick the ball up and throw a bullet to first base for the out.

Fielders taking too much time to throw the ball. Double Clutching when they should not be doing so.

          Just to name a few.

Was not talking about the actual function, that worked fine. The calling was totally random. All the check swing animations are basically the same and sometimes it would be called a strike and sometimes it would not.

I would love to have a check swing, ump decide the fate and then an "over the batter" replay where you can see the plain was broke and therefore it was called strike, or not broke and called a ball, and then only on occasion have it very close and it go one way or another.

But you are right concerning at least '08s check swing, check the ump, and it seemingly be completely random. I don't mind the blown call here or there on really close ones, but I would rather have confidence that it would be called correctly. There are only so many times I can fool my mind into it being a bad call

Haha I'm not quite sure they'd put that on the back of the box:

This alone was my biggest problem with the game! I would turn down the foul tip slider(eventually all the way down) to try and add a more realistic amount of strikeouts but it made absolutly no difference. I also also handycaped the sliders in the CPU's favour tring to make pitching and hitting harder but got nothing! My team batting average is 299 with the contact and timing window sliders all the way down. Clearly they dont work at all so the sliders are a big deal for me in 09!

Slightly not pertaining to your question, but that was one thing about MLB '08 where I thought that maybe it wasn't the best this series can be (to everyone that was saying it's phenomenal, etc). I mean, aside from the visuals (and online play), IMO I saw both versions to be nearly identical. That's saying a lot for SCEA's push to make such a quality PS2 game, but I really want to see what they can do to differentiate themselves from that title and really make this a true PS3 game without looking at the PS2 game and even finding one bit of similarity whilst comparing the two.

However, I have a feeling that, perhaps aside from the new franchise stuff, the PS2 version may still be rather caught up. I really don't know, though. This has to be around the time where they are either deciding to give it another year and for the most part just update rosters while their entire devotion goes to the PS3 version, or where they stop making them for PS2 altogether. I have a feeling though that the game still sells like hotcakes, especially with no other real competition around March.

Yes. Brian spent quite a bit of time on a major slider overhaul - Should see better results. I'm sure he'll be in when we get more time towards the end of the project (or after we ship) to go into more detail.
