In some cases they do it just to show depth, and that way the image doesnt look flat. I always do it when I incorparate text with a single main image.Comment

Re: MLB 09 The Show Official Box Art
Okay, couple things...
3. The guy saying Pujols is the best player in baseball is ignorant. The guy is amazing, but he is a one-trick pony (he's a hitter). Not like the guy is a 5-tool player, all he really does exceptionally is hit. I could name at least 5 better overall players...
So:
Hitting for average: Lifetime .334 hitter! Not to mention his fantastic patience and high OBP...
Hitting for power: Averages .624 SLG and 42 HR... yikes.
Fielding: Great range, first step and hands.
Arm: Not really applicable for 1st, but he can play LF and when he did his arm was average to slightly above-average.
Speed: Below average, but not close to a liability. Smart baserunner who almost never gets caught stealing. Capable of stealing 15 bags on a good year.
The only player I can think of who's a threat to him would be A-Rod but he completely disappears in the clutch and in the postseason, where Pujols has excelled.
Hanley (who I love to death) still has to prove he can be consistently great before he's in their company. Plus he's a borderline liability defensively at short.Comment

Yeah pujols would have been cool, but I guess they wanted to give someone else a shot on a cover since pujols has been on a couple already.Comment

Re: Official MLB 09 The Show Box Art
That, and Pedroia is the third player in the history of the game that won the MVP the year after Rookie of the Year. One of the other two was on the cover last year. And the first is in the Hall.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

that, and Pedroia is 5'6" list as 5'9" but plays like hes over 6 ftComment

Re: Official MLB 09 The Show Box Art
I believe it also has to do with who's cheaper. Someone like A-rod or Pujols would cost more to put on a cover then a guy like pedroia.NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.Comment

Re: MLB 09 The Show Official Box Art
He's hit above .300 in every single one of his big league seasons, has only struck out more than 70 times once in his career(2001 rookie year, 93), has hit 30 homers or more in each of his 8 seasons, has driven in more than 100RBI's in each of his 8 years, has had an OBP of over .400 in 7 of his 8 seasons, has slugged over .600 in 6 of his 8 seasons(never below .560), and has scored over 100 runs in 7 of his 8 seasons(2007 he had 99).
So please, explain to me how he's a one trick pony.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB 09 The Show Official Box Art
so a career .991% fielding percentage means nothing? He hits for average, power, he can field, and he's durable. In his Big League Career(started 2001) Pujols has played in no less than 143 games(2006) and in 5 of his 8 years he's played in 154+ games.
