Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
I finally got my PS3 yesterday and downloaded the demo last night. Wow. The graphics are just sick. That's the only word I can use to describe it. I've only played one 4-inning game. I held the Rays to just one hit, a two-out triple in the top of the 4th by Crawford. In my first at-bat I hit a solo homer with Rollins and then the only other hit I got was a flare to CF by Hamels in the 3rd. I can't wait for March 3rd.Comment

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
I dled this demo two days ago and I'm in absolute love with this game.
I liked 08 for a bit and then got bored. I complained time and time again about the hitting system being too simplistic and it killed the game for me.
Well, I'm not sure if maybe I'm just going crazy, but there seems to be a closer to zone-like system this year. If I swing up on a pitch low, I will miss and that has made the game that much more improved for me.
The lighting is absolutely amazing. I always play (pitch and hit) with the outfield cam and seeing the light bounce off Hamels neck and right shoulder was just jaw-dropping. I've seen comments about the shadows affecting people's hitting. I guess I won't ever notice that since I don't play in the catcher cam. But, knowing that's possible is still nice to know.
The player models are simply stunning this year. There is a definite huge improvement from 08. I'm not sure if it's just the lighting that makes it seem that way, but the players definitely look to be in higher res during the pitcher/batter battle. Like Sammy says: "It's so real!"
Replay cam is amazing. Hit variety is phenomenal. I really really like the outfielder cuts to the ball. Such a subtle change that makes the game more realistic.
Interestingly enough, I have played four times and have yet to see a homerun. I find that encouraging.
Oh, and pitch counts are wow and that's without any slider changes.
I was really looking forward to MLB 2k9, but now it's either two games this year or just The Show 09. I really can't get enough of this demo."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
just played a game where I had back to back doubles followed by back to back homers. I was the Phils and this is by far my most impressive offensive output thus far with the demo.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Was just playing a game and my right fielder Jason Werth was trying to make a running catch and flat out dropped a fly ball. It poped right out of his glove. And he did not get an error on the play?
Why did they count it as a hit?
Also I was very happy to see an outfielder drop a ball like that because I am pretty sure I have never seen that before in 08.
I just wish it would have been an error on the scorboard.Comment

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Yeah, most of the little things that sent me off in last year's game are either gone or only occur once every 15-20 demo playthroughs.
The best play I've seen is a game-ending DP: I snagged the ball, while running, with Utley, tossed it behind the back to Rollins, who stepped on the bag then gunned it to Howard.
I see a home run a game -- most of the runs I score or allow are via the long bomb -- but other than that, scores are low-to-medium and hard fought. Typically, 0-4 runs with 3-7 hits per side so I'm fine with that for now.
The wife and I cannot wait for the game to come out but, man, I never want to see the Phillies and Rays again once I'm through with the demo.
One last thing -- great work on all the little touches. I'm excited to see how many audio clips and cutscenes will be in the final version. After all, the game will likely be, what, 30 or more GB than the demo? I'm drooling already.Comment
