Just had Rollins get ejected for arguing a close play at first. That was a new oneComment

Yeah, B.J. Upton got tossed the day for me too. I wonder if a manager will get thrown out this year? I've seen the managers arguing a few times also.Comment

)...
The consensus was that 'casual players' might not see the full benefit of upgrading from 08 to 09, but 'serious players' will definitely see it.
For me, the addition of 40 man rosters and the other 'contract' stuff is great, plus it's really purdyComment

Depsite this build being from mid-December (you're welcome Jim), it's very evident that 09 just plays a better game of baseball. It's not a specific huge improvement type thing, they just did so many little things with the graphics, gameplay, etc, that there is no way I would go back to 08 now. Need proof? I've played the freakin' demo over 30 times... A DEMO!!! That should tell you how awesome this game could be...Comment

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Is there a reason why he slid like 7 feet past the base?
Shot of what was the beginning of a nice DP
Bad, bad, BAD collision detection
Another thing that keeps happening to me is that I can't seem to preload the 2nd baseman for double plays. Say the SS picks the ball up and throws it to the 2nd baseman, while the ball is in the air I'll hold O to preload a throw to 1st, but it doesn't always register...Comment

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
I'm not sure that first photo is seven feet past home, not like that's never been seen in baseball.
The demo is a build from DECEMBER, MID DECEMBER. As stated, we had no problem pre-loading and turning any types of double plays at the event with the NEW build (which still wasn't the final).
The game doesn't have collision detection. They have worked on having the player side step IN THE MORE RECENT BUILD WE SAW and it seemed to work better. I didn't even see a clipping kind of problem when I played. Will it be there, yes, as there is NO COLLISION DETECTION IN THE GAME.Comment

Also, those where some nice pics. I love the way this game looks. Also, they said that the players will side step each other this year. Not all the time, but a lot of times. So it really wouldn't be an issue.Comment

As far as 'collision detection' goes. While it would be nice, if you really think about it, it is going to be a huge undertaking. Just taking that image as an example, think about what would have to happen if this game had full collision detection...there'd have to be an entire new library of animations/mo-caps to deal with the guy hitting Howard's legs and the resulting 'collision' (or partial collision/avoidance). You couldn't just have the guy hit Howard and stop dead, or you'd have a 10 page thread about how unrealistic the collisions are. No easy task to be sure.Comment

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here
Actually, I have seen that issue where the throw doesn't happen from 2nd to 1st in this demo. I saw it occasionally in '08 as well. I'm not sure if it's a timing thing or what, but it is very rare. I suppose it could be something that I'm doing wrong, but DP's work 95% of the time so I'm doing some of it right.

Another thing that has been happening ALL THE TIME is throwing out the base stealer at 2nd. 99% of the time, the catcher throws the ball high and the 2nd baseman has to jump therefore he guy is always safe a 2nd. This is happening both when I'm stealing as well as when i'm trying to throw the guy out. And this early build as well as the "we saw nothing like this at the community day or whatever it was" CAN'T be an answer for everything! You guys answer some questions that you get with a " we didn't have enough time to try this or we didn't see this"but other you answer we didn;t see it so it isn't there. Just cause you didn't see it doesn't mean it was fixed. Truth is for most of the things you DON'T know if they were fixed unless the devs or people there specifically told you so.Last edited by dave_sz; 02-22-2009, 11:35 PM.Comment
