OHHHH lol yea i totally agree with you in real life. No they determine the strike zone by the height and stance of a player. I also heard that discipline may help but very little but discipline is actually more for how discipline he is at the plate duh

And after playing the Rays and Phils so much I'm losing interest right now as using the Rays as one of my teams, however, once I can get into the full roster I'll be back in the saddle. I may have to send Kazmir down for a few months so that I don't see him for awhile, lol.
agree, I am tired of this Demo already. Not becasue it is not fun, but the Philly's and Ray's I can only take so much. If I was a fan it might be different.

check swings are in the demo, u have to press the button very very carefully, ive seen three or four check swings in the past few games

          What I liked:

-The good is still intact. "The good" being the gameplay in general. It wasn't completely overhauled, and that worked in its favor.
-The pitching seems a bit sharper and faster.
-The presentation. Played on an HDTV and the sweeps and other transitions felt very tv-like.
-Post game stats are extensive and intuitive.

          What I disliked:

-The batting. Like everyone else said, this isn't so much a bad thing as much as it is something new to get used to. I was missing a LOT. Though I do remember when I first got the MLB 08 i was off for a while, and then I suddenly "got it"--that rhythm that you get after repeated at bats. Someone mentioned that a lot of it also is probably rust since we haven't really played any baseball games since October--totally believe that.
-Got a wee bit tired of using the Rays and Phillies (especially since my team is the Dodgers), but that's nothing to knock Sony for.
-Again, like somebody else mentioned, the commentary WAS a bit muffled. In terms of the situational commentary, definitely not as polished and realistic as EA sports titles, but I'll live.
Are you serious? Please tell me you are joking.

I just want to tell you that I've drawn 3 walks in one game (4 Innings against Kazmir), could have been more...a lot of 3-1;3-2 counts and some stupid swings way outside of the zone and after the 2nd Inning, I was a bit tired and hacked at pretty much every pitch.

3 Walks and 1 hit, that sounds good to me. Kazmir pitched around Howard, I know it happened in 08 as well, but I hope it happens way more often in 09, since we were told the AI would be very smart (especially on legend and HoF (?))

Even I am drawing walks....with little problem.
              Big deal you say?
I struck out against Jim 17(?) times!
It was like the David Cone...Randy Johnson games on MLB Network before all this A-Rod crap hit the waves...

I seriously think that if you have a problem with walks this year...it might just be on you....

Yeah walks are definitely not an issue.

I still see too many singles up the middle and not many doubles, but demo demo demo

Play the demo as Shane Victorino. He doesnt crouch or bend over what-so ever and look how much smaller the strike zone is for him. Thats because he has a good eye and is DISCIPLINE IN REAL LIFE (hint the plate discipline attributes he has)... Some guys check swing better than other like Ryan Howard tr yto check swing with that guy 10 times and 1/10 u will get him to check swing because each player is different and thats what makes this game unique and have so much depth many dont realze because we are used to it and expect it
I'd honestly attribute that to his height and his upright stance. I know what you mean by his discipline, but is that an actual factor in this game in terms of the visual strike zone? I never thought that it was.

I think the SCEA-team were aware of that problem and created the "solid hits" slider, that should solve the issues with too many singles.

Color commentary has been pretty lousy so far. I'm not knocking anybody for that, but when you sit there while playing and actually think about the fact that they only speak after a pitch or replay or something (and doesn't really sound like they're in the booth with Matty V.), it takes away from the feel of the game. It doesn't help that Rex Hudler seems to have more opportunities to speak this time around than Dave Campbell, and it just seems out of place when Soup comes in to talk because he pretty much comes out of nowhere.

The lines, however, are excellent. They well represent the play that you saw in front of you and they recall the past and future (pitches that were set up prior to the current pitch, what they did last at bat and how they can carry it into this at bat, not being patient at the plate as a team or not getting a hit at all, etc.). I just wish that there was a way to get that lively feel that Vasgergian gives as a standalone on this game.

The retail version may be different, though. Remember that they are filling the 50 GB of space, a lot of it with commentary. There will be plenty to hear.

That would be cool if there were four strike zone visual options:

                        1) Off
                        2) Standard - Like what we see in the game, and a different umpire will call it as he sees.
                        3) Umpire - We see what the umpire's zone is, perhaps with faded edges as he could be inconsistent around the edges.
                        4) Player - Based on the player's discipline, and maybe if they used something similar to Inside Edge to see what kinds of pitches they go after. The strikes and balls are still determined by the umpire.

if that happened I would definately have to pic umpire because nto every umpire is the same and like in the game they have variable calling which is GREAT!!!!

I´m loving this demo. been playing last couple of games in "just batting" mode to get me going since i sucked at it in 08.

In veteran im geting like 3-4 hits combined.

                              Some observations

                              - i got to hit a lot of deep flyballs but they all seem to die or the OF get there easy even in well hit ball

                              - just me or there are a lot more balls hit down the line for hits? i guess i got more on the demo than all 08!

                              - i got this just once but i think it´s a animation glitch...i hit a line drive the SS is in good position to get it, starts to move then stops sudenly and dives for the ball, which he misses.Had he just continued wouldnt be a hit....

The editor is basically the same.
Some new additions as far as accessories...
There will be uneditable players this year also. Probably be stuck with about two a team.
I'm negotiating with Kolbe's agent right now to change that for next year...but he's holding out for more In and Out burgers than I can afford on a fireman's salary. .....but we're getting there...

What I am going to do is add a PDF file with the remaining 30 players and a guide on how to create them and get them on each team(the game generates a batch of new editable players once you start a franchise)...so that every team will have all real players.
A little extra work....for me and for the end user....but die hards will do it...so I'm willing to go the extra mile.
