Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here

theaub: Heh, what's great about the new pitcher/batter showdown is that in 09, we look even worse when we do occasionally go chasing! In 08, in retrospect, it seems like I'd swing on something that started and ended out of the zone. Here, when I go after one that just falls off the table, I curse but I'm grinning.

SoxFan01605: I admit, I'm probably overreacting to the one instance where it's occurred in 09. I agree with everyone that the selection of proper fielders seems to be better this time around.

Before firing off a PM, I'm going to play the heck out of the demo, switching sides and just spamming the dive. I want to be sure this wasn't a one-in-a-million glitch rather than what happened last year.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

I'm loving the L3 button to bring up the problems with the last hit. It's really forcing me to think before I swing. I think I'm placing my batting circle right over the pitch but I'm usually under/over or sometimes across the box! I'm also loving the commentary...I'm rather new to baseball so I'm still learning which pitches are best thrown in a given situation. When the commentators say things like..."I wonder if he's saving that slider for the kock-out", it helps me understand that you have to set up the slider usually, or to take advantage of the change-up you have to throw some faster pitches.

I only played 2K last year on my 360 and I'm so excited I'm back to the show!

          Finally got this SOB downloaded.

Outside of seeing some framerate/choppiness that's been discussed everything seems as good as advertised. As mentioned above, the hit/swing analyzer is a very nice touch that should help me a great deal.

Finally got to see some other Sig animations. Chad Bradford, Price and Aybar are great. JP Howell is still not right though, but maybe you guys will have it in the full game

is it just me or does it seem like the the umpires call strikes almost all the time on checked swings , ive had 13 checked swings and 11 have been strikes called

Yeah, same thing for me, and the worst part is that, once AGAIN this year, if you look at the replays, 90% of the time it's CLEAR the check swing was not a strike but they call it anyway.

I was hoping they would fix that this year but I guess not.

Wow, Mark it is a demo. How do you know they didn't fix it? Maybe they did and maybe they didn't. Who knows it is a Demo.

Me and one of the guys just played 5 straight games and it wasn't a problem in any of them, however we are playing the finished product and not the demo.

Now come on now. The real game will have all the short coming the Demo will have, right?

The only thing I'm a little concerned about after playing the 09 Demo is that it seems like the baserunning in general is a little too fast....I'm seeing a few too many doubles becoming triples (for CPU especially) and the outs on easy grounders seem a little to close sometimes even for slower runners. Stealing somehow feels ok though.

Stretched a game out to 8 innings.

Not sure if this is mentioned, but Vasgersian STILL calls Tampa Bay the "Devil Rays." This is their second year as the Rays, and they went to the World Series in their first. It seems like a pretty big oversight, even though it only happens in (I believe) two commentary loops. They get it right a lot, but then again, those slip-ups shouldn't be there. They might as well call the Nationals "the Expos."

I've also seen it happen in the demo as well, I've seen it once or twice where it wasn't a swing and they called it safe, but then the next time they call it a strike, and the opposite is true too, if the bat goes to far, they call it a ball, and also a strike.

Were you checking every check swing to specifically see if the umps called it right?

If you guys fixed this then great, say that, I'm growing tired of smart a$$ answers though. Once again I stress, all most of have to go on is what the 08 version was like and the 09 demo. Outside of that we haven't played the final 09 game yet, so when I see that the check swing thing was exactly the same as it has been in the past several versions (including the demos) and it has not been mentioned till now that it has been fixed, you can see why I would say I was bummed to see it still the same way in the 09 demo.

                                .............eating crow.
Don't you and jim ever get tired of kissing the developers a$$es? Loving the game and being pumped up for it are one thing, (I am too) worshiping their every move is another.

Jim's already flat out lied about the crowd duplicates, so his opinion on anything is pretty much void, but you still have a shot. SEE THE LIGHT!

Watch me get banned now for getting on jims case. (he has friends who are mods and can ban you if you go against anything he says, watch out!)
