Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
Yes Jim, I definetley noticed that they have improved this. Instead of hitting the ball for a 320 ft out or possibly wrapping around the foul pole it is realistically just a weak texas leaguer at best. I am very pleased to see this. I think it can still of course be tweaked but that definetley does not mean that I am not pleased. It's very nice to know that the physics have been fixed and I'm sure they will continue to do so in the years to come.Comment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
This is my biggest beef with the game. I get a lot of hits. Legend mode seems to tame this down but hard to know with only 4 inning demo. I had 1 run on 4 hits in 4 innings on my first game in legend and won 1-0. The Cpu only got 1 hit. But I lost 2 games in a row on HOF mode. Go figure.PSN: ToxicitiComment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
That is a question I'd like to get answered as well.
My problem in 08 wasn't only the hits, it was the variety (100% improved in 09) and that I couldn't tell any difference between pitchers, the no-name starter for SD was as hard/easy to hit as Kamir or Hamels.
It seems like this problem is gone in 09, since ratings are much more of a factor. For example, Kazmir's sliders is hard to hit because of the huge break, Ponson will be much easier to hit, because he doesn't have those type of "out" pitches with huge breaks.
That means I want some games (against Aces) where I end up with only 2-3 hits (and more walks) and games against #4-#5 pitchers, where I can blow out my opponent with 11 hits or 7 hits and 5-6 walks.
In a perfect world, the difference between my BA and OBP would be something like .050-.060Comment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
Yeah Legend with solid hits all the way down.
I only got 2 hits this time in 4 innings against Kazmir. What I have been doing is using the power swing until I get to 2 strikes. With the power swing the timing window is much different then the contact swing. You see more ground outs and pop outs I think with the power swing. Not really entirely sure but I know that it says that in the game something about power swing and timing window being different.Comment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
Just played a 9 inning game in the demo. 0-0 until the ninth (Im the Phils) Longoria HR to RF, TB wins 1-0. Final line of TB- 1,4,0
Phils- 0,5,0. Joe Nelson got the win, Hamels with the loss, and Percival with the save. Most realistic game I have played. EVER. (although I did strike out 17 times)Comment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
I haven't had many hits in the demo so far, I've played about 40 games. I think this year the focus is on the hitter/pitcher part of the game. I've walked a good amount and have been completely fooled a bunch of times. It seemed like last year the pitchers threw 85% fastballs. This year they mix up location and pitches very well. I honestly think this going to be the best sports game ever. It seems so realistic. I also haven't adjusted any slidersLast edited by miamimarlins1; 02-08-2009, 08:02 PM.Comment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
Yeah I agree. Last year and previous years the CPU would just throw too many fastballs and I would just end up hammering them for basehits after basehits and the pitch confidence would go down and it was just too easy. This year they do mix it up better and the breaking balls are very tough to hit. It's nice to actually get fooled sometimes. They really got the pitches down good.I haven't had many hits in the demo so far, I've played about 40 games. I think this year the focus is on the hitter/pitcher part of the game. The best thing so far about this game is the timing is more crucial and of course the placement of the L-stick is as well. This year you can actually miss-time a fastball and hit it weakly even if you have the stick in the right spot which is great. Last year was too forgiving and I would hammer everything right back up the middle. This year I find myself guessing (not using guess pitch just mentally guessing) a fastball in and I'll still be a little early which will result in a ground out or fly out. That's what's great.
Let me add something about how the CPU mixes up the pitches. It's great because now with more off speed pitches and mixing everything up good will result in better hit variety because we are going to be hitting the ball off the handle, off the end of the bat, etc. As to last year and previous years I would just time that fastball everytime and it would be the same boring line drive back through the middle for a single. Even though my timing couldn't have been EXACTLY the same. That's where baseball video games should be going imho when it comes to batting. Just increasing the batting physics so every milisecond counts instead of say every 100th of a second. Endless amount of hits. Think of the system in 08 and previous years as you could hit the ball between 0% - 100% authority. Obviously 100% would be the hardest hit ball and 0% would be weakest. In previous years it would be in 20% increments meaning you could hit a ball 20% of your maximum power, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. Well this year would be in increments of 10%. Ultimately it would be great if we could get the physics to be in increments of 1% so the variety would be incredible. Like all the animations are awesome. How many different animations you see and you still see new ones popping up. Well how cool would it be to never see the exact same type of hit?? I'm sure it would take a ridiculous physics engine to introduce this but the sky's the limit for the future.Last edited by davewins; 02-08-2009, 08:19 PM.Comment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
WOW, i cant belive i missed this thread!
Anyway, im so pleased with the hitting engine, batted ball physics in this years game its hard to explain...
like many of u know too many hits was my problem for the past 5 years with this series..
this year though, im pretty confident(after the demo) its definatly gone...
there are so manny factors that got tweaked to fix our issue that seems brian really wronte "FIX TOO MANY HITS PROBLEM" on the top of his "to do" list for 09...
1st -The fielding
Hell, this year the AI fielding is so much more tight and inteligent as a hole that those ugly *** cheap singles are definatly a thing of the past...a cleary example of this is that players will actually TAG u this year...
2nd - Pitching AI
The pitchers this year , at least on legend are definatly a lot better, the nibble the corners a lot more that for the first time i catch myself striking out looking a lot of times...also their confidance dont lower as quick as in 08, which in the end plays a huge fact on the dificulty to get hits...
3rd Timing window - The timing window this year seems spot on if u ask me, u have to really hit it perfectly to get a line drive or a deep strong fly ball...im playing with the timing window lowered to 0/10 and im loving the dificulty of it...just loving it.
4rd(and maybe most important) - Batted ball physics
Well i wont talk about this since everybody else already said enough...its just incredible to see the hit variaty this year, it bat finnaly "feels" round, not square like last year, it just feels amazingly great to hit the ball, almost as good as to hit a real baseball!
Add all that to the fact sliders are spot on this year imo...from what i could gather so far i can adjust sliders to get my desired avr in any stat of the batting area following this:
AVR -> Timing, Contact
Slugging %/X-base hits -> Solid hits
HR-> Power
Ks -> Contact, Timing, Faul balls
with all that said, i really feel im set and ready to simply play ball without touching my sliders for the first time since 04 when i first played and falled in love with this franchise!

also to better jusdge high fastballs....use wide for batting cam.Comment

Re: have they fixed the "too many hits?"
Thanx for the tips Philly. I tryed timing at 0 and I was striking out too often. I kept timing at default and contact at default in attempt to get more hits for outs and less strikeouts while making a realistic amount of contact (both good and bad). Only thing I lowered was solid hits and the big thing is I use power swing until 2 strikes. I honestly think the contact swing's window might be a little too big but definetley nothing to complain about!!!
I will try that different hitting camera to better judge the high heat. Man, the more I play this demo the more I wish it was the retail version where I can visit the mound and see how I stack up against Legend in full 9 innings. Well you can't have your cake and eat it too lol.
I would also like to add here that power seems very realistic too. I don't know the Phillies lineup off hand but somebody at the bottom of the order had single digit amount of HR's last year I timed a fastball middle in perfectly with him and it was a power swing and it was a hard hit liner to left field that Crawford caught about 5-10 feet before the warning track. That to me is just awesome. Most video games I have played in the past I could hit HR's with ANYBODY but not this game. That was very pleasing to see.Comment
