I prefer classic pitching in the previous MLB games because the meter was way too accurate. Hell, classic was too accurate last year as well. However, if both pitching mechanics net realistic results, I prefer the meter over classic. I'm playing on Legend in the demo and the meter seems to be yielding good results so far. And, if Legend is as nerfed in the demo as the devs and guys that got the chance to play the full game are saying, it should be pretty tough to pitch with the meter.

Also, the fact that the devs were surprised that everyone preferred the meter, maybe they might incorporate a pitch mechanic similar to the Hot Shots Golf swing mechanic. For example, there's no meter on the screen but you have to set accuracy by pressing X at the pitcher's release point.

If you're thinking this is going to give you more walks, I wouldn't count on it.

The developers mentioned to me that classic was easier than the meter. I didn't think that was the case but this is straight from the horse's mouth.

Guys at SDS... no offense as I wasn't really calling any of you guys horses.

I wouldn't say classic is easier than meter. It comes down to skill, so probably what they meant was it was easier for them. Some people will find the meter easier, some will find classic easier.

I'm not surprised people are using classic - almost half the people play it that way. The choice is really between an emphasis on timing skill versus strategic and positioning skill.

I would have to agree. If you do something long enough you are obviously going to get accustomed to it (meter vs. classic). So it really boils down to initial preference.

I wouldn't say classic is easier than meter. It comes down to skill, so probably what they meant was it was easier for them. Some people will find the meter easier, some will find classic easier.

I just know what I was told. Like I mentioned earlier it doesn't "feel" that way to me but I'm just the messenger!

Yeah, some people definitely find it's easier one way or the other since it depends on skill and practice. So it's going to vary based on the person.

There is a more objective way to compare the two, and I'd say based on that there's a fair tradeoff and balance between both ways. It depends on your style and comfort, and some people are going to be better at one simply by practice or preference.

In 4 years of playing this game, the meter has never gotten any easier for me. Still haven't quite seen the walk totals I'd like, but I'm hoping we'll see that this year.

There is a more objective way to compare the two, and I'd say based on that there's a fair tradeoff and balance between both ways. It depends on your style and comfort, and some people are going to be better at one simply by practice or preference.

I hope you guys made Legend mode even harder since guys here are bragging they "beat" the CPU on legend in the demo... they'll get a nice shock when the game drops!

Let me take a stab in the dark at why Classic (which I use) may be easier than Meter:

In the description of Classic pitching in the demo, everyone gets an answer to the age old question: "How does Classic work?" It states that the longer you hold the button, the more effort you put into the pitch. That however does now (and this is also stated) affect the accuracy. This leads me to believe that Classic pitching relies solely on the pitcher's accuracy rating for pitch placement with regards to where you put the ball marker.

On Meter, however, you must stop the meter close to the line (and, when your pitcher is rattled, close to a vague area) to, again in my opinion, add a variable to the pitcher's accuracy rating.

So let's show a little IMAGINARY (as in this may or may not be the formula SCEA uses) math equation:

Let's say Cole Hamels has a accuracy rating of 85 out of a possible 100 ratings points. This means the ball has an 85% chance of going where you want it to on Classic pitching, because you have nothing to do with the accuracy.

On Meter pitching, he now has an 85% + or - whatever variable you have when you stop the meter. If you are far way, you could be taking away 50% of the chance, meaning Hamels now has a 35% chance to hit his spot because you didn't stop the meter at the right point. Maybe you stopped the meter right on the line. Let's say you get a 5% bonus to your pitch. You now have a 90% chance of hitting your spot.

Just my take on why meter may be harder, as it gives the user an accuracy variable whereas Classic is based solely on the pitcher's ratings.

Since I wrote the text you're referring to, I can tell you it doesn't mean to imply that's the only factor at play. It's only saying that how long you hold down the button matters and is one factor in pitch accuracy. This is a basic strategy guide for the user, and it doesn't really do any good on figuring out how things work internally.

The bottom line is Classic pitching works very differently, and the strategy guide doesn't reveal the secret formula. But you can verify Classic vs. Meter balance either by scientifically having enough people try both methods, or by knowing exactly how it works internally.

Classic feels harder because we don't have a visual aid. Think about it, if you groove a pitch down the middle after aiming low and outside on Meter, you can say "It's because I missed my mark" and you can adjust your timing of the marker on your next pitch. If you do the same thing on Classic, unless you are using a stopwatch to time your button press (and if you are, you are more of a man than I) you don't have an aid to tell you what you did wrong.

And to think, I still prefer the latter, I must be a glutton for punishment, especially after using Daniel Cabrera and the walk happy O's staff the last few years.
