I like the meter pitching simply because of the timing skill involved. I have played both classic and meter, and find for myself that i am totally absorbed ( because i have to) when i play with meter. On classic it only boils down to the lenghth we hold down the button, or as i do the position of the pitchers leg in his wind-up. Imo it seems like classic is only half of the challenge. Maybe this is why it would be harder in peoples mind, who knows.

Re: More BBs when pitching?
Yeah since Meter is more skill based, it feels more challenging because if you miss the meter you know you can do better. Classic is more strategic in that over the long term you learn what works and what doesn't, including when to hold down or when to tap.Classic feels harder because we don't have a visual aid. Think about it, if you groove a pitch down the middle after aiming low and outside on Meter, you can say "It's because I missed my mark" and you can adjust your timing of the marker on your next pitch. If you do the same thing on Classic, unless you are using a stopwatch to time your button press (and if you are, you are more of a man than I) you don't have an aid to tell you what you did wrong.
When looking at game balance, I always make a distinction between what's more challenging and what's harder. They're different concepts the way I look at them. For example with a skilled player, using the left stick without guess pitch might be more challenging (and satisfactory) but may get you better results. So in terms of results, it actually makes the game easier (i.e. you win more), despite a higher challenge. In the same way, Meter pitching is arguably more challenging but not necessarily harder. With sufficient skill, it's actually a bit easier (i.e. good meter input can make up for inaccurate cursor positioning)
The game is designed to be a correct sim whenever possible, so even knowing exactly how parts of the game works it's a tough challenge for me when I'm playing the final disc at home. There's no secret cheats I know of, unless you count changing the difficulty level to Rookie or shifting the sliders or editing attributes in your favor.Last edited by Brian SCEA; 02-09-2009, 07:20 PM.Comment

Honestly, it's conversations like these that show just how awesome it is to have you guys around on these boards.Yeah since Meter is more skill based, it feels more challenging because if you miss the meter you know you can do better. For example with a skilled player, using the left stick without guess pitch might be more challenging (and satisfactory), but if done right he can end up more successful than otherwise. So that's a case of being more challenging but not harder. Meter pitching is arguably more challenging but I wouldn't call it harder as far as results unless you have sufficiently above average skill.

A conversation about the pitching mechanics of the game with one of the guys who designed it! SCORE!Comment

Actually Kolbe designed the system, I just make sure the two systems are balanced to the point that people can debate 4 years on which is easier.:wink:Comment

Re: More BBs when pitching?
This would be great as my new Plasma has a bit of IR from the scorebar in Madden. NHL 09 has the scorebar option to remove, yet, even when the option is left on the scorebar fades in and out, great option.Comment

I would love to be able to get rid of all on screen pieces (except the scorebar) when pitching and only know what the catcher wants by his finger sign and where he positions his glove. Being able to turn off the "pitch selection / pitch types" would be great!LG 77CX OLED / Sonos Arc Soundbar / Xbox Series X / Apple TV 4KComment
