    Weaseled? LOL

Anyhoo, yeah, it's going to be nice having an overrated Reds team for once. Heck, I've had to deal with the bottom of the barrel for years now. I might actually be able to win some games this year.
    It's only a video game.

I can't say that I didn't see this coming, but here it is again.

I believe that these ratings ratings are based on the ratings of the players, not on where the team finished up in whatever offensive, defensive, or pitching categories last season. Plus, you have to consider this in comparison to the ratings of players on other teams.

For offense and defense, I think it's based on who is on the team's starting lineup at the moment. Pitching is both the rotation and bullpen.
In addition to my previous post, there are players who skew the ratings. Example: Switch Adrian Gonzalez out of the Padres lineup and move someone else there that is a middle-of-the-pack, average offensive first basemen, and they fall to 30th. Likewise, swap below average hitting Luis Rodriguez out of shortstop and put a Jhonny Peralta in his place, the Padres most likely would move up two or three spots on offense.

I wouldn't get too worked up over the rankings. Offensive and defensive ratings are dependent on who's starting and the individual player ratings matter more than team ratings.

You're right, I can't take it out on you. You guys have basement dwellers for years. I'm happy for you. But please have some sympathy for me. I was hardly able to use the Marlins last year b/c they were horrendous, I was hoping for middle of the road this year. And we lost our stadium vote today.

It is, but I can't put myself in anyone's shoe here. If for one thing, i'd overreact to the Padres not being 30th in everything. Heck, put them 90th in a list including the minor league teams.

Well, I don't have sympathy for you because preseason rankings are just that...preseason. Things could, and probably will, change with roster updates and from the hard work that Knight does. And you also have ability to go in and edit a few of your players yourself if you disagree with the ratings. I usually have to. There'll be one or two players whose speed or power or contract is way off from what I think it should be (especially for younger players). So a few clicks and BAM, problem solved. It's not that I disagree with your points about the Marlins roster, but I do think you got a little too worked up over an overall ranking...particularly one that can be easily adjusted.

All hail the ICEMAN, RAG. He has ice running through his veins, completely unaffected by rankings

Cry me a river, dude. The O's scored the 11th most runs in all of baseball last year and they've got our offense DEAD LAST!!!!!!!

The pitching? Yeah, that should be dead last, probably.

The defense is probably about right @ #14, but I think it'll be much better than that w/ Pie, Jones & Markakis in the outfield & Izturis @ SS...

But the offense and overall ranking? Please.

LOL, I try my best. You can obviously see I'm down on the Padres, but I think where they fall in MLB 09's rankings is a bit generous except for pitching.

Right, this I understand.... I guess. If it's about the names, that is.

My argument is that it should be about the numbers.

I would say Roberts is one of the best leadoff hitters in the game, but sweep that under the rug for a sec...

Last year Huff's OPS was .912, good for a top ten offensive season in all of baseball. For any position. He had the highest OPS amongst DH's and would have been ranked 5th (ahead of Miguel Cabrera) amongst 1st basemen.

A Scott + Wigginton platoon @ DH would have been the best in baseball last year, and believe it or not, Melvin Mora put up an .825 OPS, good for 7th amongst third basemen in all of baseball.

While these aren't "names," they were inarguably productive and are mis-represented in my opinion in this game.
